ANDREI Arshavin's agent insists his client is in no rush to find another club, and believes his eventual destination may depend on the outcome of some of the summer's other transfer sagas.
The Zenit St Petersburg playmaker was one of the stars of Euro 2008 with Russia, sparking speculation he was set for a move to one of Europe's top leagues following the tournament.

Yesterday, Zenit coach Dick Advocaat revealed he had given the 27-
year-old leave to decide on his future, with reports in the Russian press suggesting he is set to travel to London in the coming days to hold talks with Barclays Premier League duo Arsenal and Chelsea. Barcelona are also said to be interested in Arshavin, who has described a move to the Nou Camp as a "dream".

Advocaat is reportedly lining up Celtic misfit Derek Riordan as one of several players required to boost the Zenit squad who have qualified for next season's Champions League.

Advocaat is desperate to add to his squad for the club's debut in the Champions League and knows striker Riordan from his time in Scotland.

The Russian Premier-Liga resumed this weekend after a break for Euro 2008 and Zenit have eight league games in 24 days this month. However, Arshavin's agent, Dennis Lachter, has revealed there is no hurry for his player to find a new club.

"The push for Andrei Arshavin has only just got going," he told Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo.

"The summer transfer window doesn't close until August 31 and the clubs who are following him are only just warming up their engines."

Lachter went on to reveal that "Arshavin's future depends on what happens with (Arsenal duo Alexander) Hleb and (Emmanuel) Adebayor, as well as (Manchester United winger) Cristiano Ronaldo".

Arshavin admirers Barca are believed to be keen on signing both Hleb and Adebayor, meaning they may be out of the running for the Russian should they sign either one or both of the Arsenal players.

Should Hleb and/or Adebayor leave north London, that would appear to put the Gunners in a strong position to land the Zenit playmaker.

Perhaps the most confusing matter is the inclusion in the equation of Ronaldo, who is currently being courted by Real Madrid.

Arshavin's situation may be become clearer next week after Barcelona economic vice-president Ferran Soriano promised fans on Friday that "next week there will be news on Arshavin, Hleb, and Adebayor".

Riordan stuck the boot into strachan at his lowest point.
The players remained faithful to GS even in the darkest moments and must regard Riordan with nothing but contempt.

He has no future at Celtic...mabey that was already the case, but he put the question beyond doubt himself.

Riordan was not prepared to do the hard work of defending from the front when necessary as Naka and McGeady introduced to their play.
Somewhat stubborn young man getting older by the day.

Riordan to be signed by a former Rangers manager. Let's see if this is followed by a transfer to Ibrox within a few months.

If he spent more time training and showing the correct attitude like AMcG instead of plaing pool and getting bevvied with his pals he might have got more chances.

The rumour I heard was that he said to GS in traing during another spat that "I didn't track back at Hibs when you signed me".

Sorry, wrong attitude for the Champions, he might have got away with that at Monstermunch Park with Boydy ;)

And another thing, if he was homesick for Edinbruger when he was in Glasgow what chance has he got in Russia?

Who?,

You would have to be absolutly daft or wanting the sack to pay good money for Riordan- the guy is damaged goods.

When he was at hibs he was involved in numerous bar/ street fights after a session on the bevvy with his mates or family members. These antics followed him to celtic where they increased to a whole new level. The guy is out of control and like garry oconnor it will take him almost killing somebody before he stops to notice.

If you get him away from his friends he has a chance, but you will never get him away from those family members- even in russia!

You can take the chav out of the ghetto but you can never take the chav out of the boy!

aye, good player though. maybe wee dick can get the best out of him, and if he slings us close to a million for our trouble then canny be bad.
could also be a load of cobblers though, as there's a distinct lack of quotes even mentioning riordan.

Come on, WGS and Dick, what are you waiting for?

Straight swap, Riordan for Arshavin. You know it makes sense!

lol!

The question is.....

Will Zenit be asking the Russian FA for an extension to their league?

Shock Horror....they will have to play 8 games in 24 days....according to the above piece!

Another piece of transfer news is that Blackburn Rovers are lining up Steve Davis from Fulham. It appears that Blackburn are prepared to meet Fulham's valuation for the player which means that Rangers are likely to miss out.

Good thinking on Advocaat's part, replacing Arshavin with somebody who has a face like a shaven a*se.

A description which gives appropriate meaning to the "bum fluff" that Riordan used to display, back in the days when he was a green-and-white first teamer.

Seriously, regarding Deeks, we can argue all day about whether he's let himself down or whether WGS hasn't given him a proper chance. All I know is that he had all the tools to be an outstanding forward, and it has all gone to waste. He's probably young enough to get back on track, but he has to do it now, by getting away from CP.

As regards the Steven Davis debate, he's a good player, but RFC shouldn't be held to ransom. The same money (or less) would secure Shaun Maloney, who for me is far more creative. Indeed, throw in another £2 million and we could have James McFadden. Either of those players would provide more entertainment and flair than Davis, and WS did hint that he wanted to move in that direction!

#23 Agree with you that Maloney is a far far better player than Davies. I really don't see what the hype is, £4 Million?? Never.
