Published Date: 27 March 2008
HEARTS interim head coach Stevie Frail admits injured winger Neil McCann will have to sit down with the club's money-men to find out if he has a future at Tynecastle.
The experienced former Scotland internationalist will not play again this season after having a metal plate, which was inserted following his leg break against Celtic in August, removed in an operation at the weekend. McCann's second spell with Heart
s has been plagued by injury and he has featured in just three matches this term. That may count against the 33-year-old when the Hearts hierarchy discuss whether the player should be handed an extension to his current deal, which expires this summer.

Hearts majority shareholder Vladimir Romanov has the final say when it comes to contracts.

Frail said: "He will have to sit down with the people that deal with contracts and stuff. I will make my recommendations on him as well, but we will get him fit first, and there will be other wee roles he can help fill at the club."

Hearts, meanwhile, could be without striker Calum Elliot for Saturday's clash with Dundee United after the youngster was forced to pull out of last night's Scotland Under-21 clash against Finland with a virus.

On a positive note for Frail, striker Christian Nade is set to return after missing the last two games with a groin problem.

I thought there was more than a hint of malice in the challenge at Kilmarnock which sparked McCann's terrible run of bad luck with injuries.

I don't recall the Killie player involved, but he was "clever" in his assault on McCann, making it merely look like a hard, but fair, challenge.

That said, the reality is Hearts haven't had their money's worth from McCann and the player himself surely won't be expecting a renewal of his current contact. A reduced contract, perhaps, but I can't see Hearts wishing to continue to pay the current rate for a near-permanent absentee.

It's hard luck on Neil, but he will have to move on, and as for Elliot being out ...
Ya Beauty!
Any chance of Robbie having a sleep over at Callums tonight, maybe he could catch the same bug.

Right. So, hands up who thinks that one is a genuine injury, rather than clubs-sniffing-about Vlad-flu...?

I think every player from lith has to go bar chessy. How can you say keep miko and co they are rank. The guy Plazuelos is not good enough either. We seem to be giving young Elliot hard time and your right he isnt the best we have got. However with the circus that goes on at our club who can young players progress. I dont understand why no one seems to be tired of seeing Miko Palaz and co play week and week out they dont have the heart to wear the Maroon jersey.
Its time to get manager in either Davies or Levein and move froward but it wont happened as Romanov knows massive clear out of his foreign duds.

#8 I think you have been to too many Friday night Disco's and missed the games mate.

Ruben has been one of (if not the) best and consistent performers for Hearts all season. I think most would agree he has both passion and skill. I'm not one for backing Miko, but, I will go as far to say he has been no worse than others in recent weeks.

#1 Kenny,

your English is getting better mate, keep it up!

Sad to say it, but it's beginning to look like the end of the road for Neil. I seem to remember him having injury problems at Southampton, and now just a handful of games in the last 2 years, 33 year old...
A real shame, he was looking like he could do a job in centre mid now that the pace was going, but he needs to sit down with proper medical experts and find out if he'll ever get back to full fitness again, if not - I'd like to see him in a coaching role. Was a great player for us in his first spell, on his game one of the best I've seen, so I'd like to see him remain at the club in some capacity.

#9 Palaz passion and skill? he got totally bullied and out played against Rankars not long ago and was at fault for 2 of the goals at tynie as he gave away posession too easily, however it wouldnt be hard to look like 1 of the more consistent performers right now in this team. Do you believe players like Palaz and Miko are players to take the club forward and I will say it again if we get good manager with full control of team affairs then these players will have no future at the club. Miko no worse than others come have a word with yourself.

#11 Oi! Hands of Kenny!!

#12 Rueben is a bit of a nancy boy (are we allowed to say that??) but has class. He just needs a strong midfielder alongside him.

And Miko HAS been one of our better players in recent weeks - not difficult but his effort is excellent and he is at least trying. Trust me, i've wanted Miko punted for 2 years now but I can see a role for him as an impact player.

Unlike Chesny, who is just plain gash.

elliott out.....we have a chance at getting a shot on target this week then?? better not count my chickens when jamie mole will be replacing him!! ruben has got skill but lacks any bite. couple of times i have seen him lose the ball through a challenge, look to get up but realising by staying down it looks like he's injured. didnt buy it but the guy has ability as a footballer.
#13 totally agree mate...anyone saying chesney instead of miko hasnt seen a game for six months! i'd keep them both.

#12 Discoburger, I'll have a word with you instead, you clearly need it.

Football is all about opinions but yours are a bit deluded. Ruben and Kingston are the two most talented players in that team only Ruben puts in more effort. So he had a bad game against Rankgers, who didn't ffs!! So yes, I do believe he has the ability to take the club forward and believe he would be picked by a autonomous manager.

Miko on the other hand obviously wouldn't. However, like I said "in recent weeks" he has been one of our most attacking players when we have shown little creativity as a whole. So again, "in recent weeks" he has been no worse than others.

Discoburger whats all that about CONWRONG.
Your right football, everyone has different opinions but to say mine is deluded? who are you to think you know more than any other fan who takes games in.
If good manager comes in with full control 1st team affairs we will see who plays and who dosnt? and then I will be proved right or wrong.
I just dont blive that Lithu and Palaz are good enough for Hearts and we must be looking for better Quality if we are ever going to challenge again.

"who are you to think you know more than any other fan who takes games in." - Read your own post on 12 then answer that.

I was merely answering your question and am surprised, if you are indeed "a fan who takes games in", that you do not consider Palaz to be one of the better players in the current team and one of the few who should be kept.

Anyway, like I say its about opinions. Good day sir.

Its long before time a new manager was in place to start getting the players he wants to keep and ones he wants rid off. Also he must be able to select the players he want to bring into the hearts. No use Frail and Co saying this and that its the new guy wether it be Davies, McGhee or Levein (doubt very much if Levein would take the job unless there was a large wage involved )

#17 I think you should read your own post, 1st of all you question my opinion by stating mine is deluded. Wasnt me that started with the insults. idiot
