HEARTS were last night dealt another blow after Saulius Mikoliunas announced he wants to quit after a blast at Scottish referees.
The Lithuania winger has been a controversial figure since his infamous dive at Hampden Park to win his country a penalty in a Euro 2008 qualifier against Scotland. And he has now revealed he wants to leave the Edinburgh crisis club, who delayed
paying their players again last week.

Mikoliunas said: "Hearts have the perfect set up, Edinburgh is a lovely city and the Scottish people are mad about football. But I have been here for four years now and I feel the need for something new; new challenges."

Mikoliunas believes most Scottish fans have forgotten about his infamous penalty dive, but Scottish referees haven't.

He said: "It looks like the fans are starting to forget that incident. Last year I heard a lot of whistles and got a lot of abuse but now it's dying down. But the referees look at me through a magnifying glass.

"It's frustrating when you get booked for nothing, but I just accept it and carry on. I have no intention to whine that I am being treated unfairly. My job is to play and the referee's job is to referee."

Mikoliunas almost quit Hearts in the summer for a move to Greek club Larissa and is currently back home in the Baltics recovering from injury.

He reckons he will be back in action next month.

He said: "I will try to recoup for the time that was lost. Maybe a rest is what I needed, I will be back with more energy and hungry for football again."

• Alan Gow last night revealed he will return to Rangers at the start of next month. The on-loan Ibrox flop has been a revelation since joining Blackpool in August.

Gow was never given a chance at Rangers after making just two starts, against East Fife and East Stirling, last season after he moved from Falkirk. But since moving to Bloomfield Road, Gow has netted a string of important goals for the Championship side.

Although Blackpool want to sign him on an agreed price of £250,000, Gow says he is likely to come back north. He said: "Blackpool spoke to my agent last week and I know they want to sign me permanently, but I have not heard anything since. If nothing happens down here then I will just go back to Rangers on 1 January."

Mr Walker, You truly are a F***ing two bit, gutter press journo who should maybe run around making tea for the proper ones at the scotsman. Where did you feel the need to use phrases like "Edinburgh crisis club" and "who delayed paying their players again last week."

there was absolutely no need for it to be in this article, why dont you be a man and just pin your colours to the mast so we all know where you stand.

KNOBJOCKEY!

It would be encouraging if the replies to this article were balanced, but that is unlikely.
As for the journalist who put this together...you are one sad clown. Here was an opportunity to look at some of the blatant injustices meeted out on this lad, and all we get is purile drivel.
I can absolutely guarantee this...if any Rangers or Celtic player were to be "punished" as Mikoliunas has been, heads woulod have rolled.
If Wattie got so hot and bothered about Mr Murphy on one decision, goodness knows what level his ire may have reached, if he'd managed Hearts over the last three years.

Miko gets punished because of his barge on Andy Davis after the linesmen gave rangers a penalty in order to keep the ibrox club in the championship race.

Andy Davis like so many of the other officials employed by the SFA was known to be a big fan of one OF club and was also known to let this allegiance affect his judgement. Funny how Andy Davis has not been seen or heard of since that season?

As for Miko he has had long enough to make it at hearts but has failed to do so. I'm only supprised its taken this long for him to move on.

Well, absolutely, but I'm not sure how much of a 'blow' Miko's quest for new challenges really would be to the average supporter.

Why don't we take Alan Gow on loan?

You never know, he might be the striker we badly need, he is obviously surplus to requirements at Ipox.

.....as is Velicka. Heard nothing of him since his transfer.

Sorry but I am sure that Miko plays for Hearts and not the Edinburgh Crisis Club which is quoted in this article

No surprise there and the refs should be ashamed of themselves. Miko has been picked on. As for the Andy the Rangers supporter Davis incident. Davis should have been given a month in Jail. That was well before the Hampden dive & its no wonder the wee mans seek o it.

"controversial figure"??!! - what utter nonsence! Did he dive - yes. Does that make him a diver - no! Whenever an article is written about him divegate is mentioned with thinly veiled implications that he throws himself about. Refs read the papers too and no doubt this is on their mind when taking charge of a Hearts match. Miko goes down - card comes out (because the press say he's a diver) - new story the following day ...... and the merry go round continues.

Gow being injured & also now with Blackpool may have something to do with him not being seen much at Ibrox this season. As for Velly, walter smith has a blindspot for Miller & Boyd has up until recently been rather effective.
