2014 Games may be 'a magnet for sex trade'

THE Commonwealth Games in Glasgow could become a "magnet" for prostitution and child-trafficking, it was claimed yesterday.
The stark warning was issued by the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC), which called for vigilance to prevent the sex trade flourishing during the 2014 event.

Other major fixtures, such as the World Cup and the Olympic Games, had become centres of sexual exploitation in the past, the STUC general secretary, Grahame Smith, said. Large numbers of men descending on host cities meant they could be transformed into hot spots for traffickers.

Mr Smith warned there was a "need to ensure when the Commonwealth Games come to Glasgow that it doesn't become a magnet for traffickers".

Mary Senior, the STUC assistant secretary, said: "The STUC is absolutely delighted the Commonwealth Games has come to Glasgow. We just want to ensure that people are not exploited."

Just how precisely does the alarmist STUC propose to avert that happening? Telling the public to be vigilant, like the recent spot-the-terrorist game? The purported misdeeds are liable to happen everywhere crowds congregate. Great "stark warning" reportage from The Scotsman yet again.

I do - frequently. For business reasons. Also to Taiwan, Shantou, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Xiamen, Changsha, Shanghai and Beijing, etc. Problem?

What a load of garbage. Can these drongos not manage to get their minds out of the gutter? How about some vigilance for the Edinburgh Festival? Won't that be a magnet for the sex trade too? In fact, any festival, feis, gathering etc. could be considered as a magnet for the sex trade, if that's the way your mind works.

No further comment on your witty "no sex in fanling?" It was lost on all who read it here in HK who were looking for even a tenuous connection with the article.

For visitors to this forum, Fanling is a town in the New Territories of Hong Kong. It's a few minutes away by train from the border of mainland China at Shenzhen.

Suppose that means the burds in haghill will be off to primark to buy clean vests for the event. Ach all those muffin tops, like a Greggs shop window road show. I can't see this becoming a mecca for teh sexs trade.
