JOHN Scott has been named as the new chief executive of Glasgow's 2014 Commonwealth Games organising company.
Scott, who will leave his role as the international director and director of drug-free sport at UK Sport to take up his new position on August 4, was a board member of the 1994 Victoria and 2002 Manchester editions of the Commonwealth Games.
He al
so advised the UK government on the feasibility for the London 2012 Olympic Games bid.
Scott said: "I'm passionate about sport and this is certainly the most exciting opportunity of my career.
"I'm determined that in 2014 the thousands of athletes, officials, spectators and those watching at home will experience the best Commonwealth Games ever staged.
"The hard work begins now, building on the outstanding foundation provided by the bid team."
Scott will replace Derek Casey as chief executive. Casey had been in the post on an interim basis and had planned his departure.
Chairman of the organising company, Sir Robert Smith, believes Scott has suitable credentials for the job.
He said: "John has extensive experience of major events and I'm sure will deliver an outstanding Games for Glasgow, Scotland and the Commonwealth in 2014."
