BABERTON, the defending champions, suffered a heavy defeat in the first round of the Edinburgh Ladies' Inter-Club Tournament at the Merchants.
They were crushed 8 and 6 by Craigmillar Park, who now face Murrayfield, 5 and 3 winners over Turnhouse,
Hopes of a host-club win in their centenary year were dashed when Merchants lost at the 19th against Lothianburn.
