NICK Faldo is keen to once again captain at the Ryder Cup despite coming under heavy criticism after leading Europe to their first defeat to the USA in nine years in September.
Europe lost by five points at Valhalla and Faldo was blamed for the defeat by some for a number of his decisions before and during the event.

Consequently, it is unlikely the 51-year-old will be given the job of captaining Europe at Celtic Manor
in 2010, with the likes of Jose Maria Olazabal, Sandy Lyle and Ian Woosnam emerging as favourites to take the role.

But Faldo, who is playing in his first European Tour event in a year at the UBS Hong Kong Open this week, insisted he enjoyed the whole experience and would relish the opportunity to captain Europe again.

"What's been said has been said, so we've moved on. We're two months on now," he said.

"I really enjoyed it. I loved the experience and I thought the team atmosphere was great. We all got on great and I loved that buzz.

"A month after, I thought 'Wow, I miss the guys'. I hadn't been in that situation for 11 years since my last Ryder Cup.

"It is such a special event and if something happens further down the road I will certainly think about."

Colin Montgomerie, who is also playing in Hong Kong this week, opposed the idea of Faldo returning and instead backed fellow Scot Lyle for the captaincy.

"I think it is a one-hit deal and I think it should remain that way," he said. "I have nothing against anyone trying to do it twice but I just think it should be a one-deal and that is your go.

"It would be a shame if Sandy (Lyle) did miss out. I would personally like to see him involved."

Faldo has fond memories of Hong Kong having won the Johnnie Walker Classic there in 1990. It is clearly a place he enjoys – his last competitive appearance was at last year's UBS Hong Kong Open.

The tournament is the second-counting event for the European Tour's inaugural Race to Dubai.

The top 60 in the Race to Dubai qualify for the Dubai World Championship, which has a lucrative prize fund of US $10million (£5.6m) and a first prize of US $3.6m (£2m).

I sincerely hope that Faldo does not get another shot. This is Car-Crash captaincy at its very best. Faldo, you can say what you like about there being a great atmosphere within the team, but your incompetence in your wild cards selections and the handling there of, your opening ceremony speech, your pairings and the subsequent denial when caught out, the resting of key players, your kids driving round the around in buggies in front of the ropes.... I could go on and on.

But the major bug bear with me is that your ego is so big and outta control that think you deserve another shot at it!!..... and your reason? "I really enjoyed it. I loved the experience.." Just UNBELIEVABLE!!

What's incompetent about picking a wild card who goes on to be your top points scorer?

The resting of key players I assume you mean Harrington and Sergio - we won the session in which they sat out, both being very disappointing all the way through. This is summed up by Sergio's capitulation in the face of an american rookie in the singles - if he wipes the floor with young Kim and Westwood and Harrington come good at the end, Europe win and Faldo is a genius all of a sudden!

Remember the facts - Faldo took a team with 1 off-form major winner over there to play a team littered with major winners and 4 on-form picks and lost. Big Deal!

Obviously it's not going to happen again for him and rightly so, and he's just having a laugh at the expense of the media here - only trouble is his idea of funny and most other people's idea of funny are poles apart.

Missed the point about the wild cards, didn't you! I never once mentioned or criticized the fact that one was the top scorer. I was a bit apprehensive about Poulter and he did a great job, unlike Casey.

What was wrong was the way they were picked (everybody knew). The fact they were given the heads up before Gleneagles thus allowing them to compete for the riches at the FedEX cup... was snub especially to Darren Clarke who had found a rich vain of form.

You failed to reply to his embarrassing opening speech. His awkward cover up of the pairings. His man management skills when informing Westwood and Garcia that they were being rested. His failure to appoint lieutenants after the McGinley fiasco. His kids running around in a buggy like they own the course

Remember the facts - Europe have ALWAYS taken a team which has less major winners than the US especially the previous 2 times when we thrashed them... so that argument is nil and void.

Have you got Faldo's ear? As i saw the interview in Hong Kong in which he express his desire to captain again..... and it was not funny.. at all. There was no hint of sarcasm or underlying meaning....amazing how you could see that he's was having a laugh at the expense of the media here.
