CALLUM Macaulay returned to Scottish soil yesterday confident he has laid down solid foundations for a productive rookie season on the European Tour.
The 25-year-old from Kincardine, who joined the pro ranks last month after winning his card at the tour's qualifying school final, made the cut in his first two events of the new campaign in South Africa over the past fortnight and racked up earnings of almost £14,000.

Macaulay will return to South Africa in the new year for the Joburg Open at the start of January and the 2008 Scottish Amateur champion said: "I was obviously a bit apprehensive starting off on the tour but I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and I feel I have given myself plenty to build on.

"The key thing I noticed was the step-up in putting. (But] I didn't feel out of place at all and having made the cuts and earned a couple of cheques, I feel I have settled in quite nicely already."
