HAMILTON ACCIES boss Billy Reid today warned new signing Brian Carrigan he won't get another chance to cut it in top-flight football, writes MARK BONTHRONE.
The striker has joined the SPL new boys on a one-year deal from junior side Linlithgow Rose with the option of another year if he proves himself.
Carrigan was one of Scotland's brightest prospects as a youngster winning a trial with Liverpool whil
e on the books of Clyde before a £150,000 move to Stockport County.
Things failed to work out for him south of the border although he enjoyed a successful spell with Hamilton in the First Division on his return before turning his back on the senior game to sign for Rose two years ago. At 28 years old, Reid insisted Carrigan won't get another opportunity like this and has urged him to grab it with both hands.
"If he doesn't know this is it for him then he has problems," said Reid. "If he lets himself down in terms of not looking after himself then he's only himself to blame. He's had a good pre-season and he seems to have matured a bit. We feel he has enough quality to make this a chance worth taking. I've known him since he was 13 and I've said to him that, if he gives it his best shot and it doesn't work out, then we'll shake hands and go our separate ways.
"I know him better than anybody and, if he applies himself properly, then I hope he can make a contribution to Hamilton Accies."
