Published Date: 13 May 2008
HEARTS have agreed to a pre-season trip to Belfast in July, where they will provide testimonial opposition for the Glentoran captain Paul Leeman.
Stafford Reynolds, the Glentoran chairman, has received confirmation that the Edinburgh club will dispatch a strong squad to honour Leeman's ten years' service on Monday, July 14.

The benefit match will take place at The Oval, which has a 15,000 capacity, and offers both clubs the opportunity for vital match practice as part of their pre-season preparations.

The Evening News revealed details of Hearts' invite to Northern Ireland back in April, and Reynolds confirmed that arrangements are almost finalised for an attractive friendly in Leeman's benefit.

"Hearts will play here on the Monday night, the 14th, and then use the ground the following day for training.

"Everything has been agreed and the contracts will be signed by the end of the week," he said.

"I gather there will be a number of their guys travelling over and we're looking forward to having Hearts in this part of the world again. Last time I remember us being in touch with them was when we sold Andy Kirk to them many years ago."

Added Reynolds: "The game takes place over the traditional July 12 holiday weekend here, which I'm sure everyone is familiar with. It should make for a good atmosphere. This will help us prepare for our preliminary round matches in the UEFA Cup.

"We'll be playing opposition above our level so it's an attractive fixture for us and a good test. I believe Hearts intend to use the game as part of their own pre-season preparations. It will be good to have them visit Northern Ireland and hopefully they'll enjoy their stay. Maybe in the future they might consider it as a base for a training camp."

Meanwhile, under-19 players Eddie Mearns and Ross Hamilton will leave Hearts at the end of the month after being told the club will not be renewing their contracts. Mearns, a central midfielder, and Hamilton, a versatile left-back and midfielder, were in the final year of their contracts but have a number of interested clubs ready to make a move.

I take it the "we'll be playing opposition above our level" is in fact a misquote....

What he actually said was "we're offering to play opposition below our level"....

Hahahahah, enjoy your trip to Northern Ireland ya bunch of losers..... Meanwhile We'll be off in a most likely succesful quest to enter the UEFA Cup.

#3 - Good to hear from you as always, I was unaware you knew such big words like "humiliate", it must be your turn with the family brain cell today is it?

#7 - your spelling is atrocious - lets hope you dont "loose" to badly to Glentoran and end up having a "lose" bowel movement when you see that Hibs have qualified for the UEFA.

Mind I s'pose Northern Ireland is a massive step up from Lithuania......

Have a nice day now......

Think that should have read ""loose" too badly", not "to badly." A little embarrasing to be giving someone grief about their spelling and to get your own incorrect! By the way, Hibs will be as close to playing in the UEFA cup next season as i will be to playing with Cameron Diaz!
#5 We chose not to play Barcelona this season. We could have if we wanted to but decided against it. I think Hibs had the chance to offer their services for the game but don't know if Barca were keen?!

#23 You may not have my autograph - i don't give it out to just anyone you know, especially not Hobo's.

Sarcasm my bum, you made yourself look like an erse!

3 - 1 isn't really a horsing from a team of the caliber of Barca and 1 week of pre-season or not, Ronaldinho and Henry would take any team apart.

Despite your statement, i know for a fact that Hibs did not have 1st option on the game. Plus, Barca were happier playing us as they knew they would get a bumper crowd. You, on the other hand, would not come close to selling out Murrayfield and i'm taking that as one of the reason's Hibs are not taking up the game this season for fear of looking insignificant. Some sense obviously does come out of Easter Road.

Again, i have little doubt that Hibs will not be "competitive" in Europe as they will get tanked by anyone they play although i like the way you've backtracked from "being in a most likely succesful quest to enter the UEFA cup" to "in an attempt to at least qualify for the UEFA cup.." Bit of a climdown there but i can understand your worries with Mixu in charge. It's no longer free flowing football, it's hoof the ball, chop the oponent down, blame the ref for only having 9 men on the pitch at the end of the game!

#30 - Is that you trying to be sarcastic?

Despite my statement - What? Are you the fixture arranger? Didnt think so, stop clutching at straws...

Sadly we cant play Barca this year because we had a poor season domestically and are having to explore the avenue of the Intertoto cup to enter the UEFA Cup, However it could be worse..... We could have applied for that tournament and then withdrew upon realising our head coach was not suitably qualified to allow us entry, furthermore we may have struggled to stump up the requisite £15,000 as we have a "manageable" £40,000,000 debt to service and then to top it all we may well have finished behind two of the other applicants anyway in the shape of Hibs and of course the mighty Falkirk...... oooops sorry thats not Hibs at all is it? Its Hearts......

Come back when you've actually got something to go on about eh lad..... Until then please by all means savour your bottom six clash against the soon to be bankrupt Gretna..... Look closely at their belagured fans please and worry what just might be in a year or two for your own team......

Have a nice day now....

I've allowed myself to get overcome by some of the terrible posters on here and allowed myself to be dragged down to their level.

Banters one thing but I can actually see that I have crossed the line at certain points this afternoon. Most Hibs & Hearts fans who post frequently here should realise this is actually out of charachter for me.

MY apologies to anyone who has been genuienly offended by comments today....

Still hope youse lose to Glentoran & We qualify for the UEFA mind!!!

33 Not the fixture arranger but know my facts. I presume you're just going by what you read in a paper?

As usual you come on here bleating on about our finances. By the way it's not £40M it's nearer £32 and with the Craig Gordon & Roman Bednar sales to come off it will be under £20M.
Fact is that we've had our worst season in about 9 years while you've had one of your better ones and you're all jumping about singing and dancing about it. Things will be back to normal next season and you'll be fighting relegation.
Imagine the grief you all give Stevie Frail, yet if he'd been in charge for the whole season we'd probably be above you!
Enjoy your trip to some backwater country for a pumping in the Intertattie cup.

Do your clubs accounts show these figures being deducted off your debt? Please provide a link that shows evidence of this?

You know your facts when it suits you of course. Again provide evedience to the contary that shows Hibs did not have first option.

Is that you now backing Frail to the Hilt? Next you'll be saying you dont want a new manager.

Dont worry I will enjoy my trip to some "backwater" with hopefully a few more to come afterwards....

is the reason that the hobo debt so low not to do with the fact they keep flogging all the "best" players at the end of each season? if this is the case then what are they going to do next year? there is no decent talent left at fester road (well none that the old firm would pay for) so the debt will start to rise and rise again

But you can always BUY A BRICK!
43

A Jambo come rain or shine,

#40 The annual accounts have just been shown for last year and these sales didn't feature in those. One because he was sold in August and the account period was to July and the 2nd because it hasn't gone through yet. Not difficult to understand - for some!
I can't provide evidence because it wasn't in writing but can assure you I am correct.
I've always backed Frail while he's been in the job. I don't see the point in not backing him. What difference will I make by slating him. It's perfectly obvious to see that since he got full control things have improved dramatically. I do think we need a new manager but it wouldn't be the end of the world if he was in charge next season but he'd have to have no messing about from above him otherwise there's no point. I reckon with the current managers and current squads at their disposal, Frail would do a better job than Mixu would if he was in total control.
Bored now.

What do you base that statement on?

Hibs (as far as I'm reasonably aware) have virtual zero debt and are a profit making business.

therefore would it not be fair to assume that even without selling players, far from a rising a debt Hibs would in fact continue to be "in the black" if the stats Quo is maintained?

As I said before Im not an accountant but thats just simple maths.

Every club in Scotland bar the Old Firm sell their best players every year. yes, including Hearts. Plus if the offer is too good to refuse even the Old Firm have to as well.

so what exactly is your point?

(and no talent at Easter Road? Christ, what would you say about the capitals bottom 6 team then? And Im pretty sure Fletcher is considered a talent. Not in the Callum Elliot sense of course)
46

Jam Tarts 1874,

On the Rebound 13/05/2008 15:51:34
#39. You obviously know nothing. How could Hearts' accounts show the income from player sales which have taken place after 31.7.07. which is the last accounting period? The Accountants do mention activity since 31.7.07. such as 3 of the 4 instalments for Gordon had been received however. That is £8m so far. There is no weblink to the accounts, they are stored in PDF format on the Companies House website, it only costs £1 to download them.

Sometimes I am just amazed at how thick you hoboconomists are!

Who do hibs have left to sell? Where is this future we keep hearing the hobos go on about? Every season ends up the same for the mid-table flairmeisters.
47

hibbyspurs,

13/05/2008 15:51:49
Join the club......

We will of course have to wait and see what your clubs accounts deliver next year then to confirm or deny that argument? Agreed?

If your so certain about the Barca fact, I'll take your word for it as its such a trivial point anyway.

Its good for a supporter to back the manager/ coach (whatever), If hes in charge next season with complete control of the team then we shall see how your argument bears out I s'pose? I doubt if he is that he will have complete control though.

Argument over - no score draw until this time next year.

But saying that we still have ambition!

Hibs have no ambition and rather that build a bit of debt and keep the quality players they have reared from seasons past, they Sell out to the old firm at every opportunity and would rather be seen as a team with balanced books.

Good keep it up, you must be proud (for now)

yeah I'm thick....

Your last statement sums you up great though...

Which part of zero debt & profit making dont you get?

Let me explain it to you with simple maths....

Year 1:

Opening balance: -£4,000,000
Player sale: - +£4,500,000
Net Operating Profit: - +£100,000
End Balance: - +£600,000

Year 2:

Opening Balance: - +£600,000
Player Sales: - £0
Net Operating Profit: - +£50,000
End Balance: - +£650,000

You see how it works? If the club has a positive balance and makes a profit then the balance grows. If the club makes a loss then the balance would fall and the possibility of debt would occur. There is at present no sign of this happening at Hibs so how people can say that if Hibs have no players to sell then they will end up in debt is just silly I'm afraid.

Its a very simple & hypothetical example people so please dont try and pick it to pieces as if it was some sort of statement of fact.

I dont doubt that Hearts fans harbour great ambitions for their club.

So do we....

Its not us that count though when it comes to realising that ambition though is it? Its the owners/ board of directors/ shareholders who will decide how much of that ambition is realised.

Therefore how things will pan out for Hearts supporters ambitions is very hard to gauge at present. You have been promised the earth by your owner but are still waiting after one good season for nything to be delivered. Add to this the fact that you have just had your worst season for years and it isnt hard to see why many believe that Hearts are now in decline under Romanovs stewardship and how this decline will be hated remains to be seen.

However, it has been proven that this approach doesnt work. We have done just as well with homegrown players. Hibs just wont make the same mistake again, I feel comfortable that I will still be watching Hibs in the top League when Im as old as Victor Ian. (no offence Vic ; )

Well, thank God this season is over. It has been one long faff-up after another. We can only improve now - surely!! And hopefully goodbye "Shaggy" - what a nonsense listening to players referring to their manager as a cartoon character. Says it all really.

Any particular DVDs in mind?

Nightmare in Elm Street? Crash? Watership Down?

I'm not in a good enough frame of mind but I'm sure there could be some crackers. Amazing what mild end-of-crap-season does to my brain cells. Hey-ho.

Doubtless the timid Jambo flock that pollute these threads will sit back as usual and let you spout your vile racist filth on their threads.

These threads and their threads in the same sentence??
Contradiction in terms, which one is it to be!! either/or.
What is it they say about empty vessels??
You just keep dreaming about being reincarnated as the "Y" in Tommy Sheridans underpants.

Oh my god!! I knew the jambos were bad but common, even this shocked me!

Expected to see they had played reserves but nope all the big boys were there!

Think il put a wee bet on you boys to be relegated next year after tonight!
