FORMER Hearts chairman George Foulkes has spoken of his regret at the role he played in welcoming Vladimir Romanov to power at Tynecastle, but said he would not apologise as there was "no other obvious choice" to save the club at the time.
Foulkes has been a fierce critic of the Hearts regime in recent weeks, calling on Romanov to appoint a permanent manager, open lines of communication with frustrated supporters, and improve an underachieving Tynecastle side.

But Foulkes has been
stung by questions over the role he played in helping Romanov become the club's majority shareholder, and now admits he harbours regrets.

Writing in his newspaper column in the Evening News, Foulkes said: "I am acutely aware of my role – with others – in attracting Vladimir Romanov to Tynecastle and all that followed. I have not, and will not apologise for that either, because there was no other obvious choice. The demolition trucks were all but rolling in under the ownership of Chris Robinson.

"Do I regret the way things have turned out? Absolutely. But tell me, what would you have done? Allowed Hearts to lose their home and potentially go to the wall? Being in a position to try and help, I was damned if I was going to sit back and watch that happen. "Maybe it was the wrong decision, but it felt like the right thing to do."

Foulkes insisted that he still believed Romanov could turn the club's fortunes around, but added: "I am angry most of all at Vladimir Romanov for letting us, and letting me down in such a horrific way. We instilled so much faith in him and his inner circle that it feels like being jilted at the altar."

How can someone regret doing something but not be sorry? If that was the only decision available how can you regret making it? You can only regret the circumstances that led to the decision not the decision itself.
Its time Foulkes kept quiet over this. If Romanov had not taken over we would now be playing in a near empty Murrayfield stadium in the 1st division.
We are not doing any worse than before Romanov took over and if he isn't worried about the outstanding debt then why should i be, its his business and money.

Politicians do not apologise.
This is just a bitter old man, who gets far too much space in these collums. AS I said in the EEN on this article..let it go George, we've heard it before.
We are at the tipping point.I think that the reduction in the number of fans taking up the S.T's so far, adds weight to that.
Mr Romanov PROMISED us a NEW manager and let's just see what he delivers.
Until then, the story lines are predictable, and painful.

Foulkes, this is getting pathetic. We know you think Romanov is bad, we also know that you refuse to accept any responsibility and are happy to snipe from the sidelines and make sure the world knows it wasn't your fault.

Get some cojones man and get over your panic about your precious politician's image. We're in the position we're in and it's time to be positive about it and try to move forwards. Snipe snipe snipe snipe snipe never did anything positive for anyone.

FWIW I agree with number 2, if Romanov hadn't come in god alone knows what state Hearts would be in, if we still existed.

A bad season is not a disaster, it's what makes the good seasons sweeter. In my 30 odd years we've won 2 trophies and had quite a few seasons worse than this.

Perspective is needed!

I can't believe that we still have people out there who think that VR is good for the club.
George is recognising his part in bringing Romanov toe th club and maybe he is right maybe there was not a lot of choice at the time, I doubt that there is always an alternative, sometimes those alternatives are not what we want but they are there all the same.

This is a choice I would rather we did not make but we did and we need to do something about it before it is too late, we do have an alternative again, its just finding it.

This could have been a beautiful love affair. But at the last moment, Vlad turned away, leaving poor George, in his frock, "jilted".

He still seems to think it's all about him. In fact, it's about an historical institution that's at serious risk, but don't worry about that George, or your own mistakes in allowing this to happen... just focus on yourself.

Who?,

Sorry george your wrong, others were interested but you were so seduced by vlad, you only had eyes for him.

It doesn't matter that you won't appologise, even if you did the hearts support wouldn't accept it.

Strikes me George has that feeling of being ditched and he'd really love to get back into bed with Romanov, but would never admit especially to his closest mates, in case he looked stupid, bit of course the more he protests the more he looks stupid.

Does Mr Foulkes actually spend anytime in his constituency actually talking to his constituents, or does he limit his dialogue solely to the press
