Tynecastle win fills Zaliukas with hope

Published Date: 05 August 2008
THE Hearts centre-back Marius Zaliukas believes his team's home win over Hull City on Sunday shows they are ready for the new SPL season. The Tynecastle side won 1-0 thanks to a first-half headed goal from Audrius Ksanavicius, and Zaliukas suggested the result showed how the team had improved since their visit to Germany last month.
"We lost two games against Bundesliga teams then, and now we have won against a Premiership side," Zaliukas said. "We have one week to fix our small problems and we will be ready."

Hearts lost both their matches against Bundesliga Two sides last m
onth, going down 1-0 to Kaiserslautern then 2-1 to Wehen Wiesbaden. As a warm-up to those matches they beat Rheingau-Auswahl, a regional select, 6-0, and until the Hull game that was their only win since Csaba Laszlo took over as manager. On his debut on 14 July Laszlo saw his team draw with Glentoran, then two days later they lost to Dunfermline.

The need for an experienced striker was glaringly exposed in some of those matches, but Zaliukas argued that if one did not come in before the beginning of the season Hearts would still be able to achieve some positive results. "We need a striker, of course," the defender said. "But the most important thing is to keep a clean sheet. I think we can do that, and we will score one or two in a game."

Laryea Kingston and Ruben Palazuelos both picked up knocks against Hull but are expected to be ready for Saturday's match against Motherwell. Meanwhile, Robbie Neilson, who has been out of action for the past month with an Achilles injury, is set to resume individual training this week. The full-back then hopes to return to full training with the first-team squad within the next few weeks.

#1 There was me looking forward to swapping talk about the team with fellow Jambos now that Hibs have their own set of problems (ones we all saw coming a mile off). Anyhow, to take your points:

Debt - yes we have some, less now than before which is generally considered a good thing.

Squad - yes, we have a significantly better one than before because it's smaller, more motivated. more organised and with more youth players in it. Could do with a striker or two but when Rangers are paying more than 4m for Lafferty and Velicka I'd rather see us go with the young guys.

Ground redevelopment - planning permission stage. Remind us again when ER's stand is being built?

Chairman who picks team - Romanov is not the chairman and in 3 seasons despite numerous peed off employees not one of these elusive faxes has been pocketed for use as evidence after the inevitable sacking.

Cash-flow problems - yes, but better than before. At least we have paying customers who turn up when it matters ;)

Lack of sponsors - new one on me. Wasn;t it Hibs who failed to get one for the Intertattie game no-one, including the team, turned up for, and then said they'd decided to go with a charity to save face?

Reduction in season tickets - um, weren't we supposed to boycott the club so this is a good thing no? Make your mind up!

Plan F as manager - At least we had an outstanding Plan A we nearly got. No-one else was offered the job incidentally and remind us - after Mowbry and Collins both told Hibs to get lost after just a year or two - what choice is Mixu exactly.

Aprt from that - excellent post. Very original. How many games is that Hibs have gone without a win now - 11 is it? At least it wasn't 7-0! Please go away.

#2 and #4 Why not just buy Hearts season tickets and be done with it? The club obviously consumes so much of your time as it is, you may as well make it somewhat meaningful. Don't tell me - no girlfriends. Ah well, everyone needs a hobby.

#12 Interesting - so you don't think a Hibs fan reading another team's annual results in such fine detail is in the slightest bit odd? Ignoring the fact that Hearts extending the amount of time they give people to pay them would seem to suggest the club is less worried about cash-flow rather than what Obsessive Hibs Fan Number One would have us think. I hold shares in Hearts and I haven't read the annual results in such detail because I couldn't care less. It's football I'm interested in and the fact is Hearts lose some games and win others, sometimes enough to get a cup, Europe or 2nd place, sometimes not enough. Everything else - not important to me partly because I know enough about the inside workings of Hearts to not be worried in the slightest about any of that list. The opposite in fact. And the dribbling delusions of up-late Hibees won't change that.

#15 "I have a plethora of put-downs, just awaiting" Awaiting what? Don't tell me economics is your strong point, not the English language? And yet you can read annual reports. Amazing. The Internet has given you a platform and you're determined to use it aren't you? But, at what cost to your own personal happiness?
9

Hobo Harry,

05/08/2008 01:11:49
14 GeorgeCowieOrWalterKidd?, You know enough about the inside working of Hearts and you are a share holder but you can't be bothered to read the accounts? Must say I find that an unusual stance to take. I make myself completely aware of anything I have a financial interest in. Interesting name by the way. Unless my memory is failing, George Cowie played for Buckie Thistle and I played against him a number of times.

#16 Show me a business that pays on time, let alone under 90 days, if they can at all avoid it, and I'll show you a flying pig. Or even rarer: a Hibs win. Would you mind pointing out the line and paragraph please, or preferably pasting it into the Internet - I'm a little slow. While you're at it could you tell me what's on page 6, line 23. Not that I care, it's just that I'd like to know. My apologies, you are obviously a superior being.

reasons to hate rioters:

1. neanderthal fans that urinate in our stairwells, shoplift in our local businesses, threaten our residents and indulge in other anti-social behaviour.
2. mindless moron fans that use football as a trojan horse to perpetrate their disgusting sectarian agenda throughout our more enlightened country and beyond.
3. hooligans and criminals who brought shame on all of scotland by rioting in manchester, looting, threatening behaviour, attempted police assault (and worse), criminal damage.
4. a team which has had an unfair advantage from match officials and an inequitable protection from governing bodies for decades.
5. a team which has consistently abused such unfair privileges by setting out to kick other teams up and down football fields for decades.
6. a club which for decades refused to do anything about the deep-seated sectarian element within it's core support and instead chose to deny all responsibility.
7. the systematic pillaging of other scottish teams of their best players, refusing to pay appropriate compensation for players.
8. the attachment of blame continually being put on other scottish teams for their failures in europe.
9. the systematic 'tapping up' of players, contrary to the rules set out in order to prevent it.
10. the andy webster / wigan / jjb sports scandal.
11. the somewhat 'iffy' andrius velicka transfer.
12. the ongoing attempt to impose an illegal protection racket upon other spl teams with the 5% ticket levy.

i don't care how unpatriotic it is or how it affects the scottish euro co-efficient......

What gets me about all this "we need a striker" stuff is that we had a pretty efficient striker in the shape of Velicka who was punted on at the worst possible time for us last season at the height of the madness that was going on.

And now we're looking to spend on a new striker? Still haven't forgiven Vlad for that one, especially given where Velicka's ended up now.

As for tonight’s game I don't think Kaunus will beat Rioters but it would be great to see it happen. We all like to see Scotland do well but Rioters must be the only Scottish based team that the rest of us hopes gets beat when they play in Europe.

Heard that everything is not so rosey with the new Hearts manager. despite being promised autonomy with team selections he is still being forced to pick certain Lithuanian players like Zaliukas. Apparently he is also raging that Romanov is depserate to offload Karapidis whom he considers their best central defender in order to fit Zaliukas into the team.
He was promised money to strengthen the team but has now been told to basically make do with what he has because of the cost cutting excercise going on, he had identified Dougie Freedman as preferred choice to lead the line but Romanov is not willing to sanction this over the difference of about a grand a week between what Freedman wants and what Vlad is willing to pay.
There's been a few other things that have to got to him like the attitude of certain "untouchable" players.

All in all things aren't looking as great as they may seem for Hearts new saviour, so wouldnt be surpirsed to see him binned or walking out pretty soon, as his relationship with Romanov is starting to deteriorate quickly.

The actual rumour on houseofpain.net was actually saying there had been a bust up with Csaba and Vlad over a player he wanted. saying it was because the players wage was £1000 which Vlad wouldnt pay.

EXACTLY the same rumour i had heard 3 weeks ago about Mixu and Petrie, so the rumours are not even original anymore, but theres always some suckers that will believe them

Mmm, If I could be bothered I would find the story where there are about 200 comments from Jambos about Mixy leaving.

There is no difference at all between the rumours to me. Both absolute nonsense. Just reeks of double standards from Jambo's to me.

Serg the LIAR's slowly getting it's confidence back eh?

He/she/it kept a low profile after being caught out blatantly LYING on these pages but now it raises it's ugly head again.

Serg, you're an embaressment to yourself and decent Hibees (I have this from the horse's mouth) and are a LIAR. Nothing you say can be trusted or believed you LIAR.

Serg, you are utterly, utterly pathetic.

First Div? Do you really think so? I know that Hibs are looking poor but I will stick my neck out and say no way on earth we will be relegated. Likewise, no way Hearts will either.

I dont see where the Hearts fans confidence is coming from just now. Blind loyalty and wishfull thinking I would imagine. I watched the Hull game and you looked just as poor as us. At least as Hibees can see when we have a poor team.

Perhaps we have been down(hopefully)to our lowest point and want to remain upbeat about the way our club is being run.The gate on Sunday should prove to you that not all jambo,s are yet ready to forgive and forget the suffering that the crazy fool has put our way for a long while now.
I certainly will not be forgiving the swine any time soon.
I want proof he is keeping his hooter out of team business and giving our guys a chance of playing some good stuff to keep me & my kind entertained.

BUT.
I will remain upbeat and uphold the history and honour of our club no matter what wee parasitical gonads ie.Serg, biley,tt and the weegie twins come out with.

To start a season(even for a hobo) without any aspirations is not good mate...Why bother ??

As a Hearts fan I cannot beleave that Hearts cannot go out and get the striker they all ie Manager and players know they need. There is no way we can go into a game and hope to score one goal if lucky two goals against none. The strikers we have at the moment are either young and need experience or take NADE he is just a chancer and will never be a striker. We need a striker that can knock in 20 goals a Season at least.

See what you are saying though, I'm just not feeling the optomisim at Easter Road just now. One decent signing may have changed that, but....

Csaba has his sights on a Uefa spot I hope we make it but things will prove very hard if we dont get the striker we so desperately require. There are many other teams wanting and capable of getting the 3rd slot in the league.Wouldnt be surprised if Rangers got this 3rd spot.

#103 BILEY - let's ask the Rankers "fans" to answer that one, eh Mu Cha-Cha? Not that you'll hear a peep from them.

By definition, "glory-seekers" only want to be associated with winning games.

Au contraire, I suspect it'll be party night for others...
