BURNLEY have broken their transfer record to sign Hibernian striker Steven Fletcher for £3million.
The 22-year-old, who has four Scotland caps, joins the Turf Moor club for their first Premier League campaign having scored 52 goals 190 appearances at Easter Road.

Fletcher becomes the club's second signing in a day following full-back Tyrone Mears' capture.

Fletcher has agreed a four-year contract with the Clarets, who will pay the Clydesdale Bank Premier League double their previous record fee having shelled out £1.5million for both Martin Paterson and Chris Eagles last year.

The forward was named Scottish Football Writers' Young Player of the Year in 2007-08 and attracted the interest of Celtic earlier this year.
Mears, meanwhile, has signed for around £500,000 after spending time on loan at Marseille last season.

Mears, 26, is looking for a change of luck in the top flight after a shattering experience in the 2007-08 season.

He was part of the Derby side that finished bottom of the table with an all-time low tally of 11 points.

Good to see a young Scot with his sights set higher than the OF. Hope it works out for him.

Agreed #1. Gone are the days when the OF could come in with a 500k offer and snap up Edinburgh's finest.
Good luck to the lad, will benefit Scotland national side too.

With Wolves, Birmingham and Burnley (with Fletcher).... we must have quadrupled the number of players now in the EPL... and if it really is the best league in the world, that can't be a bad thing for the National team.

this whole pathetic "had a scot in every team " rubbish needs to be looked at. Look at the rest of every team - english clod-hoppers. Of course the scots looked good in comparison.

The 1st division of the 70-80s is about the same as the championship now.

Eventualy the 5 million rated ..scratch that...four mill..er.........three million rated striker finally got his move to the big time.

Good luck, don't know who will be more dissapointed - Real Madrid or the Hbs fans for finding out how much he was really worth.

All the best Fletch!

Fletchers off and Real Madrid will have to get by with Ronaldo and Kaka. However Petrie's cash register gives another resounding Ting! Never mind work on the new stand should start now. Or will it?

Best of luck to the player.

Playing in the EPL with and against a better standard of player should help his game and the Scotland international side.

Today's Vote

Should football fans be prevented from going to away games?
No it’s only a small minority who are violent and you’ll never stop it.
Yes, the hooliganism must be stamped out.
Maybe but really the police need more resources to tackle the thugs
