HIBS today revealed they are on track to sell at least as many season tickets as last year after fans rushed to snap up their offer of an interest-free payment plan.
Supporters had until the middle of this week to subscribe to the plan which allows them to spread the cost over four months and ticket office staff spent Thursday and Friday processing a huge backlog of applications.
Today Ian Spence, the Easter R
oad club's marketing and communications director, disclosed that more fans than ever had taken advantage of the offer, putting Hibs on course to match last year's record of 11,500 sales.
Spence admitted he was further heartened at the take-up rate given the current economic background, saying: "We've found in previous years that the interest-free plan, which many clubs don't offer, accounts for around ten per cent of all our season ticket sales.
"We definitely sold more by Wednesday's deadline than we did last year which is good news and would suggest we are on track to at least get the numbers we did last season, just more than 11,500." Hibs fans have been warned that with the possibility of work beginning on a new East Stand during the course of the coming campaign, season ticket sales will be capped and away fans sitting in the South Stand could be restricted – the Evening News understands to just 1400 – to allow supporters to switch from the current East Stand during the redevelopment.
Spence admitted that news didn't seem to have impacted on sales so far, but insisted buying a season ticket would be the only way to guarantee a seat for all home SPL matches and possibly UEFA Cup games.
Current season ticket holders have until June 2 to renew their seats but any fan buying before May 16 will get a £10 voucher off the club's new away kit, which is due to be launched shortly.
