A stunning 30-yard strike from Derek Riordan, his sixth goal of the season, wasn't enough to give Hibs their first win in Paisley in almost 11 years as Chris Innes hit back in injury time at the end of the first half to earn St Mirren a well-deserved point.
Derek Riordan scores the opening goal for Hibs

The return of Sol Bamba saw Hibs boss John Hughes reshuffle his defence again with skipper Chris Hogg moving out to right-back as the Ivory Coast star took his place alongside Ian Murray while David Wotherspoon stepped forward into midfield.

But it was Saints who made all the early running, David Barron picking up a loose clearance from Kevin McBride to dispatch a tremendous right-foot strike which whistled wide of Graham Stack's goal.

The Hibs goalkeeper made a superb instinctive save with his left boot to deny Steven Thomson as he burst into the penalty area to meet Jack Ross' low cross before throwing himself full-length to push away Stephen McGinn's effort.

Then Andy Dorman burst through the heart of the Hibs defence only to shoot wide before Riordan stunned the home fans into silence in the 29th minute with a sublime strike. John Rankin, on for the injured McBride, and Liam Miller did the spadework before Riordan stepped inside Ross to unleash a dipping right-foot shot from almost 30 yards which left Saints goalkeeper Paul Gallacher helpless.

Riordan had another opportunity a minute later but scuffed his shot straight at Gallacher who was happy to see a later shot from Abdessalam Benjelloun crash off his chest after good work by the Moroccan star.
Saints, though, were far from out of the match and equalised in the second of the two minutes referee Willie Collum had added at the end of the opening period, Innes rising all alone to bullet a header home from Ross' free-kick.

It was little surprise the Buddies equaliser had come via the aerial route as they'd given the Hibs back-line a pretty torried time of it in the air with Michael Higdon and Billy Mehmet both winning plenty of ball for their midfield runners.

Despite the incessant rain it had been an entertaining first 45 minutes with Saints probably aggrieved at heading up the tunnel level.
St Mirren Park continued to receive a thorough soaking as proceedings restarted, referee Willie Collum showing remarkable restraint in the face of a string of niggly fouls, most of them committed by the home side, as play became somewhat ragged.

The horrendous conditions weren't helping the match with neither side able to take control although Hugh Murray went close for Saints with a low shot from Higdon's touch as Hibs replaced Anthony Stokes with Colin Nish up-front.

St Mirren: Gallacher, Ross, Mair, Innes, Barron Dorman, H Murray (Johnston 86), Thomson, McGinn, Higdon (Dargo 78), Mehmet. Subs not used: Howard, O'Donnell, Brady, McLean, Devlin.

Hibs: Stack, Hogg, Bamba, I Murray, Stevenson, Wotherspoon (Galbraith 84), McBride (Rankin 17), Miller, Riordan, Stokes (Nish 68), Benjelloun. Subs not used: Ma-Kalambay, Cregg, Thicot, Byrne.

Referee: Willie Collum.

Was a good point at a dificult fixture for us St Mirren have given us two tough games this season .The equaliser on stroke of half time was gutting.Yet we kept our nerve an might have even nicked it at the end Deeks strike was a belter.Ican see St Mirren playing in a cup final this year...

And they have the cheek to ask what has happened to all the fans, I reckon most of them are dead, killed off because someone high up has decided its better to play a match in hail rain and snow in temperatures that polar bears would find lethal. IMO they should bring in summer football.

Another golden opportunity missed by the cabbages.

With the OF more vulnerable than they have been for ages, Hibs had a real opportunity to make an impact but the chance is already gone. Rangers put a further two points on them and Celtic are likely to do the same tomorrow.

Looks like the Big 3 will once again be fighting it out for the trophies. When Suso and Kingston are back in touch, Hearts will take a lot of stopping in the cup competitions.

Still, as one of the Hibs posters pointed out, Hibs is a community club which places little value on winning trophies.

Just as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hogg at RB?

Is Hughes edging him to the door?

I think Hughes, having dropped him, moved him to FB during a couple of games and now playing him at FB from the start, is now realising that he won't come good, that he's not a player and that the middle of defence is not where you want someone like him.

Hughes is looking for a centre-half, whether it be that Icelandic fellow or Barr in the transfer window he certainly recognises that we need one.

I've not seen the goal that we dconceded today but we are aleays gonna be dodgy playing with one man down in defence.

PS. Anyone else (apart from the obvious Hogglovers) think that JHs praise of him was a bit extravagent?

I think Euripides was first with "Those whom the gods wish to destroy, they first makle mad".

Hughes is messing with Hoggs' mind.

Rolland my grandad used to save some penny's each week to put toward a right good *ishup when Hibs win the SC. His jar was passed to my dad who kept the tradition going and it finally fell to myself. I just realised last week that I'm now a millionaire. I feel I should be creative with this money and not waste it needlessly. So I have written a letter to the Emerald City for the wise and all powerful Wizard of Oz to try to get Rolland a 'Brain' but source's close to the Wizard suggest he is not that all powerful and as Rolland is already a Jambo he really does not need one.

What a great performance from Scotland against Australia. While the Aussies are far from being the force they once were, you get sick of the media here talking about Southern Hemisphere domination.

That has cheered me up no end following disappointing performances from Hearts and Hibs in the SPL. At least Nade has re-discovered his scoring touch and I'm sure he weighs less than Bamba.

Dundee United and Motherwell both drew away to St Mirren in the first quarter, those two teams are our challengers for 3rd place.

Highland Hibby, be honest with yourself, what would you really know about intelligence?

My intelligence tells me that Hibs never win anything and the Big 3 share out the trophies between themselves every season.

Hearts deserve a greater share of those trophies and this season, they are more than likely to acxieve just that.

On a positive note for you however, I think Hibs are a good bet to join Hearts in the Top 6 this season.

Poor from Hibs today, but the conditions were not ideal. However, a point away from home is probably not too bad.

This may bring us to another argument which should really be brought up sooner rather than later......

In Ireland, I gather that the season has recently finished. Should we not be doing something similar? We have the same climate so why not?

It's just you Paul.

Here's a bit of basic maths to help you along the journey to discovery. If a bloke was 20 years old the last time Hibs won a major trophy, he would be 77 (yes,77) today.

If another bloke was 20 years old the last tome Hearts won a major trophy, he would be 23 today.

Kiwidoug, you seem to have some deluded belief that there is a top 3 in Scotland, which quite clearly there isn't.

There is the the OF, then the rest of us. Don't kid yourself on that Hearts are part of a big 3, it's plainly ludicrous. :-)

There are three main trophies up for grabs each season. The League Championship, the Scottish Cup and the League Cup. I am nearly 40 years old, in my life time Hibs have won three of these trophies, Hearts have won two.

Seriously, you need to get a grip of reality if you think Hearts are part of a big 3. :-)

If thats all you can throw at us, i feel sorry for you. I may never see Hibs win the Scottish Cup. But i won't lose any sleep over it. You really should be concerned at whats happening in your own back yard at the moment, or you won't have a team to follow at this rate. Now where's that war chest?????

mrhibs - The Yam dudes need to came back down to planet earth.

Forget the past, at the moment Hibs are streets ahead of Hearts on and more importantly, OFF the park. The Yams know that, so are trying to distract attention by talking about past Scottish Cup successes in the vain attempt that it might actually bother us.

Romanov is taking Hearts into a dark, dark place in their clubs history and they are ****ing themselves.

No lads, we are an integral part of the Big 3 and we are more than likely to increase our trophy tally again this season. As for our city rivals, the basic facts are these:

1 Already out of the League Cup.

2 Not a dog's chance of winning the league.

3 Haven't won the Scottish Cup since the Boer War.

4 No major trophies for 57 years and no serious challenge for the league in that time either.

Now that would make supporters of some clubs very didheartened but I take the point that if winning trophies doesn't matter that much to you, the above facts will be pretty meaningless.

For me, the opposite is the case. I am fired with ambition for the Jambos and every draw or defeat is a body blow.

Let's get this right, you lot have won 2 trophies in 50 years were relagated at least 2 or 3 times in that time (and stayed doon as well) have an average gate of approx 15000, you didn't even make the top 6 2 seasons ago and your club is run like a schoolboy outfit. If a baby had been born at the start of this season the lucky child would have seen Hibs win 6 matches, scoring 17 goals in the glorious green. Or the poor wee thing would have to endure fartz losing 6 matches, scraping 10 goals in the manky maroon. Aren't statistics wonderful?

I doubt, however, if you saw many of these goals at all, as your head is so far up your own a*se that you probably spend most of your sad existence tickling your tonsils with your tongue.
