THE Irish Turf Club dismissed an appeal by connections of Curtain Call to promote him over Alessandro Volta in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the Curragh on 29 June.
Aidan O'Brien's Alessandro Volta veered violently to his left, causing interference to Curtain Call and then Tartan Bearer.

Alessandro Volta finished third and Tartan Bearer fourth, but the placings were reversed after a stewards' inquiry. Curtain
Call finished fifth but connections launched an appeal after believing they should have also been placed in front of O'Brien's runner.

However, after a lengthy hearing, the Turf Club upheld the decision of the Curragh stewards. "They went through it in detail and a good defence was put up for the owners of Curtain Call by (solicitor] Andrew Coonan," said Turf Club press officer Cliff Noone.

"The panel heard evidence from Fran Berry and Luca Cumani (jockey and trainer of Curtain Call], Johnny Murtagh, who rode Alessandro Volta, and Shay Quinn, the stipendiary steward on the day.

"But having considered the appeal they dismissed it, and believed the stewards on the day made the correct decision. The inquiry on the day was a lengthy one and the stewards viewed replays from all angles with the best equipment available."

Cumani said: "It's disappointing, but we have to move on."
