PLANS to introduce a 7mph speed limit over half of Loch Lomond have been abandoned.
Instead, the park authority is planning to extend existing speed-limit zones around the loch's islands, allowing jet-skis and other craft to travel at up to 65mph across its length.
The new bylaws are expected to be agreed on Monday, before going to the Scottish Executive for final approval.
Paul Dzierzek, of Fair Play Loch Lomond, described the move as "a compromise rather than a U-turn". He said: "There is no justification at all in bringing in further restrictions. To us, this is a hollow victory, and we will continue to campaign to stop even the current proposals."
