DUNDEE'S promotion campaign surely came to an end in Greenock where the home side scored a goal in each half to grab the win that now lifts them above Jocky Scott's men.
Morton survived an early scare when Colin Cameron was bundled to the ground at the edge of the box, however the first half did not fully come alive until the midway point. A Rab Douglas throw out released Mark Gilhaney on the left and he passed to M
ikael Antoine-Curier, who swept the ball past Kevin Cuthbert in the home goal only for Alex Walker to clear off the line. Colin McMenamin picked up the loose ball and he set up Paul McHale only for his 18 yard shot to hit the bar and go over.
Morton hit back with a Stevie Masterton free kick that Rab Douglas beat out into the path of Brian Wake who could only drag a shot across the face of goal and wide.
The home side went ahead in 29 minutes when Jim McAlister got free on the left and crossed to Peter Weatherson who sent a fierce header past Douglas from seven yards out.
The Dens Park side came out with all guns blazing at the beginning of the second half and McMenamin's chip in 48 minutes looked goalbound until Allan McManus cleared from under the bar with Gilhaney striking the bar shortly afterwards with a 20-yard shot.
The three points were secured for the home side when Weatherson glanced home a Masterton corner 11 minutes from time.
