Published Date: 23 May 2008
HEARTS have officially approached Motherwell for permission to speak to Mark McGhee about the managerial vacancy at Tynecastle, however the Fir Park club have refused their request.
As first revealed in Thursday's Evening News, Vladimir Romanov has already held detailed discussions in private with McGhee about the possibility of him taking control of Hearts next season.

This led to a request from Tynecastle to hold official talks, which has now been rejected. John Boyle, the Motherwell chairman, has been aware of Romanov's interest in his manager for some time but wants to retain his services if at all possible.

Several issues remain unresolved between McGhee and Hearts following their previous talks, notably that the former striker wants concrete assurance in the form of a contract clause stating that there will be no interference in team selection.

However, the Edinburgh club are keen to secure the former Leicester City and Wolves manager after he guided Motherwell into the UEFA Cup, and have now gone public with their intentions.

A statement on the Hearts website today read: "Heart of Midlothian Football Club (Hearts) announces today (Friday 23rd May) that it has approached Motherwell Football Club to seek permission to speak to Mark McGhee about the managerial position at Tynecastle.

"A spokesperson for Hearts said: 'We have requested permission from Motherwell to speak to their manager about the possibility of him becoming the new manager of Hearts.'"

Motherwell's response read: "Motherwell Football Club can today confirm that it has received an official approach from Heart of Midlothian Football Club, seeking permission to speak with current manager Mark McGhee about the vacant managerial role at Tynecastle.

"After consideration, the Motherwell FC board of directors have decided to refuse this request."

Hearts supporters would welcome McGhee's arrival given the stability he could provide, however an appointment depends on further discussions taking place and whether he can attain his stipulated guarantees.

Well, thats Hearts going officially public. The skeptic in me still has a niggling hint of a campaign to boost season ticket sales with renewing period in their last week. Really hope i'm wrong, & its just a niggling doubt.

"Its all pie in the sky".
"It will never happen".
"Tick Tock"
"no decent manager in their right mind will go near Tynecastle".
"Smokescreen for season ticket sales"

Thought i would speak for a few of the usual suspects before precedings get fully underway.

Legal or not .. if you think these things are not discussed well before official approaches are made then you truly are naive.. besides you all tell us how crooked Vlad is.

This is absolutely critical, otherwise McGhee is wasting his time. IMO the Lithuanian players have to be sent packing for McGhee to be successful

Can't believe that the EEN is trying to take credit for revealing all this yesterday. This was all on Talk 107 on Monday?

The only thing missing from what Talk 107 said on Monday was the timing of the official approach to Motherwell. And despite what all the media outlets have been saying all week and despite the fans scepticism about Hearts keeping the fans in the dark, the first news of the official approach was on the Hearts website.

#41 I know that but they are hugely in debt to one man and I am not sure selling Stamford Bridge would raise enough to repay him.

In any event, selling the ground would not be an option so where would that leave them?

In that case, they are comparable as they are at the whim of one owner (but we are better at taking penalties than Chelsea, though)

Should all be sorted by Monday/Tuesday at the latest...

This is all hush hush and not out in the press yet - but the finance director of The UBEG Group has been based at Tynecastle at Hearts all week sorting the contract for Mr McGee etc etc as he has direct access to Vlad.....

And also been putting the funds in place from the UGEB Group for the contracts that are being signed with the building contractors...There will also be a big anouncement within a few weeks once planning permission is granted on just who the stand sponsors will be - IE: The Reebox stadium or The Emerates stadium etc etc
It is a choice of 3 - all are global brands... 2 are sporting - but my Favourite is a computer company - for a wee clue just check who are involved heavily in the Hearts community programme, involved in the Breakfast club and the magnificent 7 programme.....

What attracts them is not only the footie exposure...but the massive investment Vlad has authorised on the community programmes...

Trust me - this could just be the start of something MASSIVE!!!

I have to say that whether it be naive optimism and a wanting to believe what he writes, but I find myself now scowering the message boards for comments from "The Wookie". I am still uncertain of the credibility, but what he states seems to make sense, although too good to be true. He did state very confidently some time ago, that McGee was the man and would be given a "War Chest". It seems to be developing as predicted. The latest comments about the stadium and McGee telling the Motherwell players about his wanting them to beat his new "enemy" again seem very legitimate. Wookie I don't know where you get this from, but I hope that everything you claim comes to be. The stadium sponsor makes me a little more comfortable knowing that we have a company with endless funds coming in to assist with the cost. I believe h may be refering to Aegeon??

Good attempt - but to put you out of your misery - here is a big clue - every garden has one......Falkirk used to have one at the end of their tunnel before you went on to the pitch...
It just might be a company owned by a very very very very rich American who actually has a trust fund he and his wife run for community prodjects - they love the community thing that vlad has put in place and have thrown their hat into the ring...but Vlad fancy's a sporting brand...

You heard it hear first....

Thanks for the comments about checking my previous postings - I know some are done to wind up guys like Lenny etc etc..but they are done tongue in cheek - but the stuff about the manager and money and the stand come from what you could call "impeccable" sources - either that or I have saw the documents etc etc - you decide!!!!

'Champions League in 3 years'
monkey journalists
sky-high wages for complete huddies
bottom 6 finishes

and a whole lot more -

one really has to ask: Why would McGhee go there?

There can really only be one answer: Filthy lucre. In this case, extremely filthy lucre.

Throwing away European fitbaw as well? If McGhee does it then it says all about his character. He'll fit right in with the wasters running that joke club and the mercenaries playing for it.

You ask who the champions of Scotland would like to buy from Hibernian this close season, as has happened previously?

Not got a clue; we haven't got the same diamonds as previous years so I don't imagine anyone will be bought by the plastic paddies this time around.

What about yourselves, who do you think will be swooped upon in the close season from the gunts?

As for me having issues, not at all. I would seriously doubt Mark McGhee's sanity if he moved however; for the reasons explained above.

I know that in today's world, it all seems to be about how much wedge you've got sitting in the bank account.

But honestly, when you are talking about a six-figure salary, is it really a world of difference between 100 grand and 300 grand? I mean, is it that life-changing?

If I was in the position of having earned really decent money throughout my career as McGhee has, with the opportunity to take a team into Europe for the first time and test my abilities against foreign foes then no, I do not think I would do it.

On top of that, move to a club in the state that the gunts are in? No, definitely not.

I believe this last reason is why it's taken so long for Mr Mr Mr Romanov to find a candidate to start with. He must be a mercenary with little regard for his career and his professionalism.

I'm probably in a minority of one here, but I think it would be good if Mcgee went to Hearts, but and its a big one, if he did go, would he stay, Mad Vlad isn't known for keeping his promises ( ie. team selection ) there's more than one way to skin a cat as the saying goes.

Lots of ifs and buts in this one.
Suppose wee'll have to wait and see.

Agree with comment on #1 though, slightly suspicious of the timing on this with regard to the season tickit sales.

Regarding all this nonsense about stunts to sell season tickets, listen, Heart Of MidLothian will sell tickets any time for their seasons, and why, cause we have loyal support for the biggest and best team in Auld Reekie.

Really don't know how to react to this one.

Total respect to the Wookie on the positive front, seems like your cup's not only half full but the barman's also given you a free extra pint of ultra expensive imported German Lager into the bargain, just cause he didn't get the head quite right on the first one.

Would love to believe that everything you're saying will come true but...

BUT...

BUT...

BUT...

Just can't do it though, not yet at least.

Not sure who coined this phrase originally but this perfectly sums up the whole Hearts & Vlad situtaion for me:

"It's not the despair that kills you, it's the hope"

Vlad I truly do hate you...

PS: ...erm, just to prove the true ficklness of the footie fan, that doesn't mean to say that I'm not fervently hoping for a Q-o-S victory mañana!!

Why would Mark McGhee want to leave a team that has europpean football next season for a bunch of useless knuckle dragging racist xenophobic bigots? that are the laughing stoock not only of edinburgh but of scotland as a whole - they are lucky if they are not knocked outta europe in the first round anyways

Interesting thesis, "stan". I assume you know the difference between opinion & fact?

Care to enlighten us with some facts to support your viewpoint?

Or will you admit to being a bigoted Hobo..?

#118 - where are the only two places in the whole of Scotland where the BNP (racist, xenophobes and bigots) openly stand for election and get a sizable share of the votes cast?

Gorgie Ward and Govan Ward
