LOANHEAD motorbike racing star David Paton is celebrating his impressive showing at the Scottish Championship event at Knockhill.
The 19-year-old was racing a Superstock 600cc Yamaha sponsored by Wallace Mitchell Racing with 30 horsepower less than the factory Raceways Supersport Yamaha of top contender Hudson Kennaugh.

South African Kennaugh had won two weeks before at Mallory Park and is second in the British Supersport 600 Championship.

Paton qualified third behind Kennaugh and multiple Scottish champion John MacDonald.

In race one, Paton got a flyer of a start and settled into second behind Kennaugh, eventually finishing just a second back.

The other three races also all saw Paton chasing hard but finishing behind Kennaugh. Paton said: "It was awesome to be in the same race as a guy who has won British championship races just weeks before. All I need now is another 30BHP and I'd hopefully be able to give these boys a serious challenge when the British Championships come to Knockhill."
