ROSSLYNLEE TROUT FISHERY, near Penicuik (01968 679606): Contrary to local rumours, Rosslynlee Trout Fishery is very much open for business every day, providing some great fishing. The Dalziell A/C had a good day out catching 44 rainbows between 13 anglers. Fish of 7lb 2oz, 7lb 1oz, 6lb 6oz and 5lb 4oz were among the total weight of 128lb 12oz with the heaviest bag of the day going to B. Smillie with four fish for 15lb 12oz. John Hunter, on his first outing of the year, took two fish for
MARKLE, East Lothian: It was an excellent week with the 'fish of the week' being a big rainbow of 12lb 2oz that fell to the charms on a Black Buzzer and John Russell from Prestonpans had a cracking 10lb rainbow on a Concrete Bowl. Bruce Hunter from E
dinburgh used a Black Buzzer to bag one at 7lb 8oz, M. Sullivan caught three for 13lb – best 7lb 8oz and Keir Baikie, Aberlady, had one at 10lb on a Damsel. Sandy Page from Edinburgh took five for 22lb – best 7lb on a Gold Head Damsel and James Armstrong caught a nice 6lb rainbow on a CDC.

FRANDY FISHERY, Gleneagles: There were some good individual returns last week including A. Bernard from Tillicoultry who kept eight for a total of 23lb, G. McNeill from Falkirk had seven fish for 15lb 5oz, J. Easton, Kirkcaldy, kept ten fish for 22lb and J. Beattie, Gateside took five for 12lb 4oz. Messrs Boylan & Cowan from Ayr caught 12 fish for 26lb and released a further six, Mr Dawson, Kirkcaldy, kept eight for 18lb 8oz and Messrs Strang & Barr, of Kirkintilloch, had ten for 23lb. Mr Wiseman from Dollar kept four fish weighing a total of 10lb, Messrs Sturrock & Fotheringham, Dunfermline, kept eight for 20lb 8oz and Messrs McNeill & Son, Grangemouth, took seven for 15lb 4oz. On the club front Longannet A/C had nine fish for 21lb 12oz, Bohemian A/C kept nine for 20lb 3oz and Dunfermline Artisans caught 41 fish for 82lb 5oz. The Ferry Fly Dressers from Broughty Ferry had 38 fish for 89lb 3oz and Newtyle & Meigle A/C kept 24 fish for 58lb 6oz.

LOCH FAD, Isle of Bute: April was a much colder month this year and it showed in the fly fishing with a cold east wind spoiling the sport. Good bags of fish were caught on flies such as Black Zonker, Yellow Dancer, Hot head Damsel, Orange Blob, Orange Booby, Yellow Booby and Sparklers. Boathouse Bay, Pumphouse Shore and the Dam all produced fish to the fly. The bait anglers probably had the best sport with the fish feeding right on the bottom of the loch. Lots of fish in the 2-3lb bracket are getting caught now. The flies that are hatching at the moment are Buzzers, small olives and stoneflies and the end of the month should see some Mayflies hatching off. The north end still produces the bulk of the catches although there were one or two good bags to the fly coming off the south end of the loch. Damsels, Black Zonkers, Orange Blobs and Yellow Dancers are still working. One or two reasonable rises are happening now since the east wind died down as long as it's not too bright. Bait and spinners such as small tobies and mepp spoons catching some good fish. Big Pike were hard to come by in April although some nice 20s were caught.

COYLE WATER, Ayrshire (01292 571291): There was some great fishing over the past week but the good weather has increased the water temperature significantly, keeping the fish down for most of the day. Mr C. Auld took three for 9lb and released nine fishing Buzzers, Brian Brown took two for 6lb and released six, Mr Young during his usual short morning session released eight fish and T. Jarvie and son released 21 fish up to 5lb between them. Regulars D. Dick and Ian Kilpatrick had a good week with Davy just coming out on top with most of the fish, Jim Graham had seven crackers all falling to a Yellow Owl, Billy Testo released three fish and Davy Campbell took two nice fish for 5lb. The Coylton Flytiers 3-fly competition took place last Wednesday evening and was well attended but it was a very difficult evening's fishing. Sandra McTear and Ryan McIlwraith were neck and neck until Sandra managed to take a 3rd fish to let her win the Trophy for 2008 so well done Sandra - unlucky young Ryan! The best flies of late have included the Diawl Bach, Pheasant Tail, Shuttlecock CDC and Black Spiders. The Bait pond and new stocking policy of larger fish is going extremely well with Mr Graham taking three for 5lb 12oz, Mr Kleef had two for 5lb, Mr Steel caught four fish for 8lb 8oz and Messrs Ritchie and Doyle managed four fish for 8lb 12oz. The Boys from Scottish Power at Blantyre managed 14 fish for a total of 27lb. Maggots and Power Bait are working best.

FORBES OF KINGENNIE, Broughty Ferry: The Bankside Pond in particular saw some prolific rises in the evenings, though day rods also reported fish moving steadily throughout day. Many went away happy with limit baskets taken on small Black Buzzers and black bodied CDC's which proved to be the most successful combination. Even those who found them hard to tempt were astonished by the numbers of fish they saw rising. Mr Godfrey and Mr Gunn, fishing catch and release together, had 15 for their session, including a superbly conditioned brownie of around 3lb 8oz. Mr Martin and his fishing partner had a great day taking 12 for 29lb 10oz. The Specimen Pond also saw fish cruising and feeding at the surface, and Mr Willis and guests, fishing for two days, had 23 fish for 174lb including three doubles. The any legal lure Woodside Pond saw good numbers of fish to 2lb taken with worm, maggot, spinner and Powerbait all taking their share of trout.
