PEDAL POWER cyclist Gordon Murdoch was today celebrating overall success in the Scottish Power Renewables Super Six Series after emerging victorious in the penultimate round, the Tour of the Whang in West Calder.
Murdoch edged out Michael Nicholson of Glasgow Wheelers to seal the victory and build an unassailable lead over his team-mate Gary Hand, who finished in sixth spot and will now take the runners-up spot overall. The success in the inaugural series marks a major breakthrough for the West Lothian outfit, who have longer term aspirations of contesting major events including the Tour of Britain. Claire Thomas (Edinburgh RC) was the leading female rider and has also secured the series title.

Meanwhile, Edinburgh Falcons cycle speedway team rewrote the record books when they posted their biggest-ever league win as they saw off Astley and Tyldesley at Redbraes Park by a massive 119 points to 58 tally.

Six riders from the Capital outfit went through the card undefeated, taking advantage of the absence of several key man from the Manchester side's ranks. Indeed, but for falls by Jake Slight and Neil McPherson during an eventful 13th heat, Falcons would have achieved a clean sweep.
