CURRIE bounced back from an opening-day defeat with a stunning victory over the defending champions that yielded all five league points.
There could be few complaints in the away camp although the Meggetland management will no doubt look at the part the uncharacteristic loss of discipline played in the defeat.

Currie blazed from the blocks but failed to make the breakthrough and
fell behind to a Boroughmuir counterattack which ended with Malcolm Clapperton sprinting in for an unconverted try.

The hosts responded with a penalty by Johnny Smith then raced into a 24-5 lead at the break through tries from Mark Fusche, Mike Norton and veteran hooker Gavin Scott, all of them converted by Smith.

Boroughmuir's Neil Malloy darted in between the posts just before the interval but the score was ruled out and the visitors penalised for Angus Martyn's part in a touchline punch-up.

But the champions got back into the game when Clapperton scored his second try three minutes after the restart and Elgan O'Donnell converted.

However, Smith slotted two further penalties either side of a try by Tom Bury and the home defence held firm against a late Boroughmuir onslaught before grabbing a deserved four-try bonus point when Dougie Fife intercepted on half way, leaving Fusche a straightforward conversion.

No wonder impressive Currie won, the muir players were distracted by Eric Milligans Bright red trousers. A great, organised and disciplined display from Currie. How Angus Martyn stayed on the pitch, i will never know, maybe its the ELVs. More performances like this one, please Currie.

I went to this local derby and a real derby match it was as well. I thought Fergus Pringle was lucky to have got off with so many warnings from a referee who was very much out-of-form in Rob Dickson. Boroughmuir seemed to want to make it too much of a physical contest and they paid for that but both sides will want to tidy up the errors. I thought the Currie scrum-half, Sneddon was man of the match.
As for Eric the Mooch, his scarlet breeks made him look an even greater clown than he is - now that he is out of power I dare say he'll try anything to get noticed.
