CURRIE rugby club have vowed to stand by Andrew Binikos after the playmaker suffered a leg break on international duty with Cyprus, writes BILL LOTHIAN.
Former Natal Sharks ace Binikos was taken off in his country's recent meeting with Georgia and, according to Currie president Brian Buckner, spent considerable time in hospital before being returned to the team hotel as insurance issues kicked in.

"The main thing is that Andrew makes a full recovery but it is looking unlikely we'll have his services until December at least. The injury happened a month ago and Andrew needed help from his family to resolve medical matters," said Buckner.

Binikos joined Currie at the start of last season and quickly became a fixture.

He played in 20 out of 22 games either at stand off or centre scoring seven tries while his raking kicks were often able to turn defence into attack.

The situation is aggravated by the departure of Ally Warnock to Doncaster and Buckner said: "We will now be looking around to see how we fill a key vacancy."

Currie's season kick offs with a friendly at Blaydon on August 16.

surprised he is going to stay with currie, not the other way around, a team full of fat popo's trudging around every saturday, not attractive to watch and quite honestly boring. predictions for the season: currie finish in bottom half, narrowly avoiding relegation with match attendances falling dramatically, maybe finally the 2 old boys charging people to get in can finally retire now!
