Scotland A 27
Argentina XV 24
SCOTLAND A held off a determined Argentina XV to win their second Barclays Churchill Cup match 27-24 in Kingston, Ontaria last night and top Pool A.

Andrew Turnbull got the Scots on their way with a 16th minute try and that was added to ten min
utes later with a touch down from man of the match Rob Dewey. Argentina got on the board after a Garryowen inside the Scottish 22 led to Lucas Berrera Oro barging over to make it 12-5 at the break.

Scotland appeared safe thanks to tries from Jim Thompson and Colin Gregor, along with a Gordon Ross penalty in the 74th minute to make it 27-17. But Argentina hit back with tries from Gonzalo Comacho and Juan Pablo Lagarrique then Mauor Comuzzi scored a fine try at the death – to pull his side within three at the final whistle.

Unbeaten Scotland, who beat Canada last week, will now play either England or Ireland A on finals day in Chicago next weekend.

Scotland A: Jones; Turnbull, Dewey, MacRae, Thompson; Blair, Laidlaw; Kalman, Thomson, Young, Pringle, Turner, Newlands, MacDonald, Swindall. Subs: Dey for MacRae (77), Ross for Blair (41), Gregor for Laidlaw (41), McGee for Kalman (41), Kelly for Thomson (60), Eddie for Pringle (46), Dunbar for Turner (50).

Was it just me or was it a pleasure to watch this game last night? Entertaining play, with backs taking the ball at pace and being inventive on their own wits rather than looking like over coached 'rabbits in the headlights' and best of all the team actually looked like they were enjoying themselves!!

Dewey apart, this was the A team-B side and most of these guys don't play regularly for their pro teams, so overall it was an accomplished display.

Not sure why Ross came on so early, thought Blair was doing okay and his kicking was usually sound and into space rather than straight to the full-backs hands (are you watching Mr Parks!!!)

However, even with the 'A side' back, I think that they will struggle against the Saxons side, the vast majority of whom are GP regulars and whose forwards looked awsome on Saturday.

Hmmm! Mixed emotions here

Great first 20 minutes and looked like it would be a huge score (based on Scottish performance). However, they were the 2nd team on the pitch for the bulk of the remaining 60 minutes which was disappointing - looked like they "stepped off the gas", and let the mini-Pumas back into it.

If the Pumas kicker had been on song, Scotland would be on the way home.

Still....more entertaining to watch than the 1XV! Good running and spreading the ball (sometimes lacking some vision though).

Wonder if the game plan changed after 20 minutes??

JONES ran back every ball he caught in the first 20 (which was great to watch), but for the next 60, he either passed infield, punted or went to ground. Shame, because he looked really exciting with the ball in hand, and I'm sure if he kept at it we'd have seen more scores.

Great fun to watch and it is good to see Moff letting the boys play with some enthusiasm and use of their own initiative.

Blair I felt fell right out of the game and kept putting the team uder pressure with sliced kicks. Was replaced at the right time and GR brought the team a bit of stability.

Good to see Dewey back to more like himself again. He has been in poor form for a long time and has yet to make his mark at Ulster. Hopefully that is all behind him. Some good performances on the back row too, but I agree Saxons will be too strong.

#4 - I bow to your superior knowledge on Mr Blair. Since I am a veteran forward you are no doubt unsurprised that the intricacies of back play pass me by!

However, in my defence, I only had Mr Park’s recent displays to use by comparison, so Blair looked like a superstar!!!!

Ross did indeed add some control to the game as you would expect with his experience, I was just pleased to see some back play from men blue jerseys!

I enjoyed the game, Blair's kicking was excellent one minute, awful the next, Ross brought a bit more pace to things and mixed it up well.

Dewey's power was superb, though his fitness needs to improve, we so need that level of physicality and ability to break the gain line at 1st XV level, so let's hope he uses this a foothold to climb to the top.

I though the referee was blind to bent line out throws and forward passes from Argentina but somehow noticed Scottish forward passes.

At one line out the Argentina 2nd row used his outside hand to pass the ball down to the scrum half, how bent did the line-out have to be?!

Some good performances, we get an extra days rest over the English team, different tactics for that game, just as long as we can keep the score tight and up the performance it will be a successful tournament for this team.

Great result.

The case for a Probables vs Possibles trial before the 6Ns gets stronger and stronger with the A team often displaying the greater flair and passion.

Well done lads - a good result.

I thought Gordon Ross played a blinder. He really mixed it up and there was a real confidence to his play that was lacking from Blair.

The switch of direction to set up Jim Thompson's try was impressive.
