The Honest Men dominated for long spells and deservedly took the lead after 38 minutes when Mark Roberts knocked the ball home from close range.
Alloa rode their luck and Greg Spence levelled against the run of play. Ayr pushed forward in search of a winner, but they could not find the breakthrough and they must now face a promotion play-off.
Brechin City 2
Stranraer 1BRECHIN cemented their third-place finish with a comfortable victory over the league's basement club.
Steven Ettien fired Brechin in front with only 90 seconds on the clock. Rory McAllister slid the ball inside to Ettien who beat Duncan Crossthwaite with a cool finish.
Ian Nimmo doubled Brechin's lead midway through the first half when he ran on to a Darren Smith through-ball before netting. Danny Mitchell pulled a goal back for Stranraer.
East Fife 0
Stirling Albion 3ALBION coasted to a comfortable victory against an East Fife side that remains without a win since Stevie Crawford took over as manager.
A defensive mix-up gifted the lead to Stirling just before the half-hour mark. Kevin Fotheringham was short with a passback to the keeper and David McKenna nipped in. Michael Mullen extended Stirling's advantage midway through the second half and a second goal from Mullen completed the scoring late on.
Arbroath 2
Peterhead 2THE Red Lichties twice come from behind to secure a draw against play-off bound Peterhead.
Stuart Anderson fired the Blue Toon in front after 11 minutes with a crisp shot. But Steven Rennie levelled for Arbroath with his first goal of the season, racing onto a Kevin McMullen through-ball. Anderson restored Peterhead's advantage with a penalty after Jamie Bishop brought down Craig Gunn. Robbie Ross's third goal in three matches secured a draw.
