IT WASN'T pretty but that mattered little as Dundee moved top of the table courtesy of their hard-fought win over Raith Rovers.
This victory at a windswept and rain-lashed Dens Park lacked many of the finer elements of the game although the decisive goal was indeed one to treasure. Gary MacKenzie, the Dundee defender, was the unlikely provider of the 35th-minute winner with a cute back-heel after being set up by the outstanding Leigh Griffiths.
They'd taken a 15th-minute lead through Colin McMenamin who, despite taking a tumble inside the box, still got up to score from close-range. Raith, though, hit back three minutes later when Darren Smith beat Tony Bullock after Gregory Tade's cut-back had been helped on by Allan Walker.
But it was left to MacKenzie to restore their lead and, in doing so, send his side to the top of the First Division.
