Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish has confirmed he has made an enquiry about Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson.
The former Ibrox boss had Ferguson as his skipper during his time in Govan and remains an admirer.

But the Birmingham boss, who will look to add to his squad for next season's foray in to the Barclays Premier League, was keen to stress that nothing had been decided yet.

"I haven't made a move for Barry but I have enquired about him," McLeish said.

"He is one of a number of players I'm interested in.

"I'm on holiday right now but I'm still working away at some things."
Ferguson, 31, was linked with West Brom before Tony Mowbray left to join Celtic.

Don't think Ferguson has what it takes in the Premiership, infact there are times where I think he doesn't have what it takes in the SPL!

Time for Fergie to move on.

The last time he was in the EPL he did better than people give him credit.

He was M.O.T.M in most games he played and was made Captain.

If we can get a couple of million then good stuff.

Or maybe Mowbray will sill want him...

Barry has been a fantastic Captain & servant of Rangers.
His big brother Derek brought him to Ibrox as a kid
& hes more or less been in with the bricks ever since.
If Barry does move on, then he will go with a another championship medal & some great memories.
All the very best Bazza.

Mcleish should hold out and he'll get him for nothing.

Unless he does a Souness and buys him purely to help Rangers out.

Ferguson is no worse than he was at the height of his mediocracy. I think he should retire.

Scottish football will not be poorer for the departure of this basic player.

Surprised anyone would even want him. As long as George Burley or John Hughes don't want him it's great by me. Overrated, overpaid primadona.
Good riddance.

I think everyone knows my opinion of Barry Ordinary Ferguson.

The ordinary one can go any time, he's a waste of space in Scottish football and after his disgrace I'd rather not see his ugly face again.

I always thought that Barry was an asset to rfc.

Maybe in the advocaat years and before he went to Blackburn, since he's returned he's been gash, lazy and pointing arrogantly at his team mates.

All he was only ever slightly above average - about the same as Scott Severin or Barry Nicholson.

His snubnosed arrogance will not be missed.

He was at one time a very good player. The last few seasons his form had dropped off quite a bit.

Until this season there was not a lot of help in midfield and Ferguson has always wanted to run the show as in previous seasons.

With the midfield make up of Thomson, Davis, Mendes and Edu they seem to gel better with BF not in the starting line up.

He has been a good club man over all but it is time for BF and RFC to move on.

Well done Brian a football post on the subject of the thread and no offensive remarks. Congratulations I knew you could do it.

And there once more we will have to disagree Dun Aenghus.

It's all about opinions and I respect you for having a difference of opinion and being able to rationally discuss the difference you and I have.

Brian, Pundit - look and learn!

#17 TM....... I also value your opinion and agree to disagree.
19

Daillyman,

Tim why do you try to come onto the threads and give us your sanctimonious tripe.

You constantly bring up subjects that have nothing to do with threads and have done since your mate Pax returned this past week. My opinion of you had been a fairly knowledgeable lad who did not mind debating football.

Only when you change to subjects that you and you mate Pax revel in, and get an opposite view do you go into high gear.

My big mistake is not having the experience and background in you and Pax's favourite subjects.

RFC and CFC supporters are rivals and are supposed to have differing points of view, but the opinions of the opposing supporter should be respected, whether you agree or not.

For a while you wee open to points made by RFC supporters on these threads sadly now you only believe what you post.

Sorry to the posters on the threads, my last comment to Mr Malloy on this subject

Time will heal you Brian.

Stick to football and stick to the subject - on this thread it's Barry Ferguson a player who I think is very ordinary.

Daillyman,

At 31 and with his history with past injuries, he is at this time an average midfield player, who will be signed by either a lower level EPL side or a team in the Championship.

Was one of the best midfield players to be produced in Scotland over the last dozen years.
26

Daillyman,

18/06/2009 22:38:02

I have to agree with you, I dont do you and your mates favourite subjects very well. I thought I had told you that already.

Get with the program.

25/26

Good. I hope you have learned now.
Time will heal the burns you incurred earlier.

Onto Ferguson, one of the best in the last decade?Arguable but you may be right, but let's face it Scotland hasn't produced much in terms of players this last decade - hence the absence in major tourneys.

In the history of Scottish football, Ferguson is nowhere near the level of Crerand, Auld, Murdoch, Baxter, Souness, Bremner or McStay. I'd even say Alex McDonald and Bobby Russell were both better than Ferguson. He's been elevated in a weak era for Scottish football. I'd say he's been marginally better than the likes of Severin, Nicholson and McNamara.

Dún Aenghus,

#26 Well, if you insist on supporting RFC,it is very likely that you are going to be asked out of the ordinary questions and not all of them about football.
A wee bit of advice! Get your constructive non football answers ready. It prevents suspicion. After all,RFC is not just about football,as you have learned to your cost.

Good advice though, I hope Brian takes it, but I am not sure he will.

28 Dun

I support a football team. Period.

This tip for tat with Mr.Malloy goes back to yesterdays thread, when before he was posting I asked his mate Pax to leave the beliefs issue out of the threads. I then left the forum, I managed to catch some of the comments posted just before that thread was closed late last night.
31

TM voice of freedom and truth,

18/06/2009 22:57:59
30 - Yes Brian and then you started posting on a new thread insulting people while they lie fast alseep. A bit snidey but never mind you have to live with that.

Then you got a bit back earlier and went bleating to the mods. But it showed your limitations and childishness not mine.

So can you stick to football please?

Ferguson. All time great? Or overrated primadonna?

32

I-Mac,

"Ferguson. All time great? Or overrated primadonna?" (#31)

Neither.

Very good player at his best. Not sure he can get that back now.

Fair comment. I'd say good player at his best not very good player. But it's all about opinions.

How much do you think you will get for him?
34

Dún Aenghus,

18/06/2009 23:09:48
#30 DM....Yes I agree with you supporting the team of your choice. However, RFC have lots and lots of unsavoury baggage, which from time to time bursts open and the sordid contents fall out.Its at this time you will be likely to be asked difficult questions.I believe that if one is going to support a particular team, then one should be familiar with the history of that team.Dont you agree?

Have never been over impressed by Ferguson. Looked decent under Advocaat but i think a lot of it was hype generated by the media based on him being the great Scottish hope in a team full of Dutchmen. Has rarely performed in the big games, and that's when it matters if you're at Celtic or Rangers. I think the EPL would be beyond him at this point, and he should probably retire instead of ruining whats left of his reputation.
