PORTUGAL coach Carlos Queiroz last night defended his shock decision to recall Rangers' Pedro Mendes, five years after his last cap for his country, saying he was a classy player who had nothing to prove.
And Rangers team-mate Kyle Lafferty is eager to shake off injury and fire Northern Ireland's World Cup dream. Ruled out of his country's opener against Slovakia on Saturday, the striker hopes to be fit for next week's clash with the Czech Republic.
