Rangers' bid for Loovens at a standstill

RANGERS may be no further forward in their bid to sign Glenn Loovens but Ally McCoist has assured worried fans they are still actively pursuing new signings.
The Cardiff defender features high on the wanted list of Walter Smith, following a failed attempt to land Watford's Danny Shittu.

The Ibrox club have also been linked with PSV Eindhoven's Finland international Mika Vayrynen to plug the void left b
y injured skipper Barry Ferguson.

It looks increasingly unlikely that Rangers will beat Thursday's Champions League signing deadline. but McCoist insists there is still every chance of more new arrivals before the start of the season. "It's not moved on at all to be honest with you," said the assistant manager of the Loovens transfer. "But we are still looking at one or two players.

"If the opportunity arises to strengthen between now and the start of the season, we will obviously do that. If it doesn't, we will just have to get on with what we've got for next Wednesday. If good players come up and they are available and we can afford them, we will certainly be in the market for them."

A Nacho Novo goal earned Rangers a hard-fought win over First Division Clyde at Broadwood last night as preparations intensify for next week's visit of Kaunas. Kenny Miller failed to add his name to the scoresheet but, despite jeers early on, he did appear to win over some fans, who provided vocal backing as the game wore on.

The striker's controversial transfer has not been welcomed by a section of the support but McCoist believes Miller will eventually win over the Ibrox faithful.

He said: "Kenny is absolutely fine. The way Kenny plays the game, if you are a football fan, you must appreciate what he does. I thought he was fine last night and the Rangers fans were fantastic with him. I was chuffed to bits."

Former Ibrox stars Brian Laudrup, Jorg Albertz and Arthur Numan helped draw a bumper crowd by pulling on Clyde jerseys for the night.

Still time yet but i am starting to worry about next season.
Close season was supposed to have been building on last season but in reality we are far weaker and have already spent the lions share of our budget.

And still no bloody fullbacks!!

I think Papac although not a left back can do a steady defensive job there, Whittaker should be given a run at right back.

My big concern is the lack if creativity in the midfield, we seem to be lacking genuine quality there.

Its a huge worry. We are one or two injurys away from disaster.
Imagine injurys to Thomson and Whittaker?

This is the time to give some of the more accomplished younsters a proper run. I would take losing the league again for this to happen as at least we would be making progress. Sorry to sound so pesimistic but at the moment we have went backwards from last year.

Good to see Lafferty playing a part in the bounce game yesterday, i could see him being used more in midfield than up front next season.

I'm a Celtic fan and I'm not worried in the slightest. We were awful for chunks of last season and still won the league. All we need is a bit more quality brought in a few areas, and for S Brown, Ven of Hesselink, etc to perform as we know they can.

The only rangers player who could enhance our first team would be Cuellar, and it is obvious that Mr Strachan is looking to bolster the centre of defence.

You are right to be worried for your own team, but down try to console yourself with the worries of Celtic fans - we are still celebrating the mother-of-all-league-championship-comebacks :-) :-) :-)

It`s called default ! Unless Celtic get 3 or 4 players in then Rangers will win at a canter as it is unlikely that we will still be in the top end of all 4 trophies next term and that was the reason Celtic even got the chance tae make a comeback. Be worried ... I can`t wait tae see what WGS wastes the budget on this year!
