BRIAN Ashton's long-term future as England head coach is still unclear after Rob Andrew presented his review of the Six Nations campaign.
Ashton remains as head coach, but the Rugby Football Union will continue the search for a team manager and an additional specialist coach.

Twickenham officials assembled yesterday to hear RFU elite rugby director Andrew's report just three months after he completed a detailed assessment of the 2007 World Cup campaign and recommended Ashton, plus his coaching lieutenants John Wells and Mike Ford, continue in their posts.

The figure of Martin Johnson, though, is now lurking. England's former World Cup-winning captain met with Andrew last week to discuss a possible managerial role.

But former England prop Jeff Probyn has expressed reservations about the RFU making a move for Johnson.

He said: "Rob (Andrew] needs his head examined if he brings Martin Johnson in. He is a character and was a good captain, but a good captain of a side that had five or six captains in it."
