HERIOT'S stunned the champions in front of the television cameras at Meggetland yesterday with a second half fight-back that exposed the frailties of Boroughmuir, and in the process hauled themselves into the title race.
'Muir fell behind to a Graham Wilson penalty before sparking into life when Calum Cusiter, sniping round the edge of a ruck, carried play into the away 22 for the first time and sent Tom Bury in for a try which Elgan O'Donnell converted.

Wilson w
as off the mark with his next penalty attempt and the hosts capitalised when Bronson Ross plunged over from close range, leaving O'Donnell with a straightforward conversion.

The home side had chances to add to their tally but lacked composure in sight of the line and it was the visitors who book-ended the first half, scoring with a second Wilson penalty.

O'Donnell and Wilson had a penalty apiece before the game turned on its head with two touchdowns by Dave McCall. The Scotland Under-20 cap picked a pass off his toes and scampered in at the corner for an unconverted try then edged his side into the lead when he intercepted on halfway and sprinted away.

The missed conversion left the game finely poised, but Struan Dewar calmed Heriot's nerves when he dodged through heavy traffic and scored between the sticks. Wilson converted and did so again after Colin Goudie bagged the bonus point try.

And, although Bury scored a late converted consolation try, the match recording will without doubt be filed in the Boroughmuir library under video nasties.

Honest Opinion 2,

This report is a wee bit inappropriate: nit-picking when it should have been celebratory. 'Muir and Heriots served up an open and thrilling game albeit including some errors(isn't that part of club rugby's entertainment value and spirit). Full marks also to BBC Alba for the TV coverage - pretty professional camera work. Great for guys like me stuck in rural France with little or no contact to the club game at home. Thanks to both sets of players and the TV team.
