DOUGLAS Urquhart, 74, a versatile threequarter who played in the Boroughmuir FP side who won the 1954/55 Scottish unofficial championship, died earlier this week.
While he was fielded at full-back in his earlier games, he eventually made his mark at centre, his strong running being a feature of his game.

The winning of the unofficial title was the climax of a lengthy campaign by the Meggetland club to achieve senior status and they have never looked back.

Urquhart, a pharmaceutical sales manager, was also a swimmer and water polo player with Warrender Swimming Club, played squash at Edinburgh Sports Club and golf at Bruntsfield Links. He is survived by his wife Janey and son Graeme.
