A BURST of four tries in a frantic 10-minute spell paved the way for Currie to outgun Hawick in a see-saw battle at Malleny Park.
The Borderers had raced off to a bright start, with Rory Hutton banging over a series of penalties without reply. Then, in the build up to the interval, the hosts clicked into gear.

Ryan Reeves inflicted the initial damage with a fine touchdown, with Ross Weston also going over in stoppage time. Both were converted by Jonny Smith, who added an extra three points three minutes after the restart.

Less than 60 seconds later, the bonus point was in the bag as Mark Cairns broke through – Smith again hitting the target. And he dented the Greens' chances further by slotting two penalties.

Hawick refused to buckle, however, and touchdowns from Steve Anderson and John Coutts, along with two more Hutton strikes, set up a tense finale.

Mike Norton's late try, converted by Smith, made sure for Currie.

Why have Hawick been struggling for these past few years?

Even although they lose players, they still must have more players thay any other club, I think they run 5 teams plus 2 under 18 teams.

Is it something to do with their unique structure which may not be fit for purpose in this day and age?

there is actually 3 junior teams, hawick 2nds and 2 under 18. The problem is not necessaryly this set up, but player appathy towards Hawick and poor communication and understanding between the players, clubs & Hawick. The coach of Hawick Jim Hay bleets on in the local paper about not having pro players, how is this encouraging younger, local players to aspire to play for Hawick. I hear after yesterdays match there has been a player revolt against him, we await to see the outcomes. As said previously Selkirk are managing with locally produced players and everyone pulling towards the same goal, maybe their set up is the one to look at?
