Published Date: 04 July 2008
RUGBY'S Professional Game Board have issued the British and Irish Lions with a proposed solution to the fixture clash with the Guinness Premiership final.
The Lions are scheduled to open next summer's tour to South Africa against a Highveld XV on May 30, the same day the Twickenham showpiece is due to take place.

The issue topped the agenda when the PGB met for the first time yesterday and chairman Martyn Thomas revealed they are now waiting for a response from the Lions after putting forward a new proposal. He said: "The PGB has put together a proposal for the Lions and we hope to receive their views on it in due course."

Surely a novel solution would be for the team that finish top of the league to be awarded the title without having a play-off?

#1 You might be on to something there. Finishing top could mean that have amassed more points over the course of the season than anyone else...

I concur with you 2 amigos. Think someone should put this exciting new idea to the big wigs at the English Premiership.

Why would you dispose of the best showpiece in Northern Hem club Rugby for the sake of a tour match? You boys and your league winner means champion cr*p is stuck in the ice age. Rugby Countries of note that don't have a playoff final....... SCOTLAND and MAGNERS LEAGUE hmmmmm two of the most forward thinking rugby set up's around... very good.
