HOPES of a return north of the border for Jason White were dashed today when the ex-Scotland rugby skipper announced he is to join French side Clermont Auvergne from Sale Sharks at the end of this season.
Speculation had been rife in the west of Scotland that White would be returning to Glasgow, but White today revealed his future lies abroad.

"It has always been an ambition of mine to play in France and I am looking forward to moving to Clermont in the summer," said White, who began his career with Watsonians.

He added: "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with Sale Sharks and have played with some great players at the club."

Meanwhile, Edinburgh Rugby are set to announce a friendly clash with select side Crawshay's Welsh on the eve of the RBS Six Nations kick-off.

With Scotland hosting Wales on Sunday, February 8, the plan is to repeat the fixture staged two years ago when Crawshay's won 17-14 at Pennypit Park, Prestonpans.

This time officials are looking to stage the match nearer the centre of Edinburgh to accommodate thousands of Welsh visitors. Kick-off will be either lunchtime or early evening to avoid clashing with the club programme.

After next Friday Edinburgh have no home fixtures in either Europe or the Celtic League until late March.
