SCOTLAND boss George Burley today named just one player from each of the Old Firm for next week's B international against Northern Ireland.
Burley has stuck to an agreement not to select senior Celtic and Rangers stars for the game at Broadwood Stadium, with the final derby of the season taking place at lunchtime on Saturday.

Celtic are represented in the squad by defender Mark Wilson, who has not featured for the Scottish champions for more than six weeks. The 24-year-old already has one B cap.

Rangers, meanwhile, have sanctioned the selection of striker Steven Naismith, who has had to make do with mainly substitute appearances since recovering from a long-term injury knee injury in January.

Naismith, 22, earned his only senior cap as a substitute against the Faroe Islands in June 2007, while he has also played in a B international.

Burley has not picked any players from Hearts, Hibernian, Dundee United or Aberdeen, all of whom play Clydesdale Bank Premier League games 24 hours after the B international.

The squad is a mixture of senior fringe internationals – such as goalkeeper David Marshall, defender Darren Barr, and striker David Clarkson – current Under-21 internationals – such as Scott Cuthbert, Brian Easton and Scott Arfield – and players from smaller SPL teams and English clubs who have yet to feature under Burley.

Next Wednesday's match is Burley's final chance to assess players on the international stage before August's crucial World Cup qualifier in Norway.

Is Richard Hughes at Portsmouth completely off the radar these days?

What about Steven Pearson?

After watching Norwich v Reading on Monday night I hope that Turner is given a start as Marshall was howling.

Funny how an article abut the Scotland B team quickly turns into a slagging match between the great unwashed.

#11: But surely the super Gers had super Fleck in their team hence should have been unbeatable?

Thought he was the Messiah but is he just a naughty boy going out clubbing and all that?

The threadberz as I recall fielded at least 5 players who have featured in their first 11 this season, including McGregor, Naismith, Fleck, Aaron (?) and a.n. another I can't recall...or was it another 2?

Anyway, just about half the team have played for the first team this season....presumably they were retained because they looked better than the ones sent out on loan ? Unless Walter has gone totally bonkers, you would have thought so, hmmmm ??

£40k a week ?????? Aff yir heid wi' that....Donati is the only big earner in the reserves and lucky if he's on £15k a week....roughly half of what injured reservist and former captain Barry Ferguson is on, fnar fnar !

But hey, winnin' titles is what we specialise in at Celtic Park....8 in a row for the reserves and 6 from the last 8 for the first 11. That's no' bad...that's no' bad at a'....'specially as it's about to become 7 from 9.

The middle of the week and as usual you are in good spirits, is this another week of anticipating a Gers loss this weekend?

Seems to be your usual weekly prediction, but I have not seen it yet this week. Still early I suppose.

Good to see the pundit back, "Has she given you time off for good behaviour?"
