KENNY Miller may have missed out on Scotland's famous win over France in Paris last week, but he made headlines of his own on Monday night after scoring on his Derby County debut.
Miller grabbed the only goal of the game against Newcastle United at Pride Park with a stunning 35-yard volley in the first half that secured Derby's first victory of the campaign and lifted them off the foot of the Premier League.
"It's a dream
start - it's great to get our first win and I think we deserve it," said Miller, who moved from Celtic to Derby last month. "The lads worked hard and it was a massive team effort."
Stephen Pearson - who did play in Scotland's Parc des Princes triumph - was instrumental in the Derby midfield and picked up the man of the match award. "It was a great strike by Kenny - getting that goal was a big help for us," said Pearson.
"We defended well, it was a good team effort and I think we were worth it. Hopefully we can kick on from here."
Derby manager Billy Davies has been delighted with Miller's impact at the club and said: "He's an international striker and he's scored goals at every level.
"He has the ability and the pace we need. I'm certainly delighted to have Kenny."
