THE other Glasgow derby went Partick Thistle's way with two early goals setting Ian McCall's men on the road to victory. On-loan Hibs youngster Damon Gray scored the opening goal in eight minutes and Mark Roberts doubled the lead 60 seconds later.
Queen's pulled one back through youngster Jack Henry, however skipper Richard Sinclair was red-carded after a clash with Ian Maxwell.
AIRDRIE 3, DUMBARTON 2
VISITING debutants Ross Clark and Derek Carcary had Jim Chapman's side two up before the break and the Diamonds looked down and out until Stuart Noble's angled a shot eight minutes into the second half.
Joe Cardle equalised in 58 minutes and former Kilmarnock man Paul Di Giacomo got the winner with 15 minutes to go.

QUEENS made it a miserable home debut for new Berwick boss Alan McGonigal.
Sean O'Connor and new signing Stewart Kean scored doubles with a strike from the Wee Rangers player coach Ian Little sandwiched in-between. Another debutant QoS Craig Barr scored with a header.

NEW-LOOK Livingston scored four against Stranraer, however Lions manager Roberto Landi was not impressed with the style of football on display. "I prefer football on the ground and not played with a long high ball." Leigh Griffiths scored first and last with Joe Hammil and new boy Anthony McParland also netting.
S'HOUSEMUIR 0, ALBION ROVERS 1
STENHOUSEMUIR manager John Coughlin was left angry referee Bobby Madden as Albion Rovers won. Ciaron Donnelly scored an 87th minute penalty after Gary Thom had been judged to have fouled Rovers striker Pat Walker. Coughlin said: "It was never a penalty and I told the referee that."
ALLOA ATHLETIC 2, DUNDEE 1
DUNDEE manager Alex Rae admitted his frustration at this shock, saying: "It will be difficult to bring 12 new players this week, if I could I would do, to replace this lot." The Wasps went ahead through a Chris Townsley header on 59 minutes and Jamie Stevenson scored a second with seven minutes to go. Mickael Antoine-Curier pulled one back with two minutes remaining.
ROSS COUNTY 1, ST JOHNSTONE 2
HOLDERS St Johnstone crashed out of the tournament as David Winters and Sean Higgins put Derek Adams' team two up in 65 minutes before debutant Colin Samuel struck a consolation with six minutes to go.
PETERHEAD 6, MONTROSE 0
MONTROSE manager Jim Weir was left admitting: "For the first time as a manager I am embarrassed."
On-loan Ross County youngster Craig Gunn notched a hat-trick in 16 minutes after the break. Martin Bavidge opened and closed the scoring and the unfortunate Stuart Cumming put through his own goal.
ARBROATH 1, FORFAR ATHLETIC 2
DICK CAMPBELL'S reign as Forfar manager got off to a great start thanks to two second-half penalties. Brian Scott put the home side ahead just before half-time but spot kicks from Sean Kilgallon and debutant Kevin McLeish won the tie. Campbell said: "We have a spirit in our side and it showed in the second half."
DUNFERMLINE 3, STRILING ALBION 0
THE first goal of the new season was scored at East End Park when Alex Burke netted in only four minutes.
Dunfermline doubled their lead after the break when Nick Phinn headed home and made it three when Iain Williamson's bundled effort went in.
ELGIN CITY 0, COWDENBEATH 2
COWDENBEATH manager Danny Lennon enjoyed a good start as Darren McGregor and Paul McQuade downed Elgin. Lennon said: "I do not think we were ever under pressure."
BRECHIN CITY 0, EAST FIFE 1
FORMER Glebe Park player Chris Templeman won it for East Fife in 69 minutes after home keeper Craig Nelson pushed a shot into his path.
