GORDON SMITH has confirmed securing sponsorship for the Scottish Cup is the next aim after the Scottish Football Association landed a bumper television deal.
Sky Sports and the BBC have secured the rights to broadcast Scotland home internationals and the Scottish Cup between 2010 and 2014. The aim now is to find a sponsor for the Scottish Cup, which was without a backer last season after Tennent's 17-year association with the tournament came to an end following the 2007 final.

"We are working on it," SFA chief executive Smith said.

"We have been speaking to people but it's a difficult time for companies.

It will happen and hopefully it happens for this season and we get a sponsor in place for the start of the Scottish Cup."

I was personally interested in contacting the SFA to see if it would accept sponsorship from my organisation. Gordon Smith failed to secure sponsorship last year yet was more visible with regards to his own personal crusade and initiative with regards to retrospective video evidence being used. He got his fingers wrapped by Michel Platini. What seemed like an admirable initiative initially turned out only to indicate that Gordon Smith is out of his depth within his role.

What happened to this initiative ?

It was introduced in January 2008 but was never used.

Why not ?

Can it be used to judge if referees are cheating as well as players ? and if that accusation is made would in be "criminal" and bring forth external legal procedures?

Will we have to wait and see what Rangers are doing and if and when Watty would like this ?

For the record in the SPL during the months Of January , February and March .. Rangers got three bookings in the SPL. One a month. Amazing statistics for an ultra defensive team. Rangers captain never got booked once in the entire season. Yet video evidence would have proved conclusively that he raised his hands four times in that three month period?

I suggest that no extra SKY subscriptions will be made on the back of this announcement and the status quo will be maintained.

Campbell Ogilvie he who would already have had Smiths job if he hadn´t crossed swords with Murray at Ibrox boardroom level should not be the next incumbent. The Scottish public has to make many sacrifices to protect the mafia for the mediocre penchant for protecting Rangers ... and its back to the walls stuff now .. what is it they say about cornered bears ?

Considering that the SC has no sponsor and that this is Gordon Smith main remit it has to be said that his actions in offering to postpone the SC without consulting any of his members or even participants in the show piece even

consulting any of his members or even participants in the show piece event is hardly the actions of a competent chief executive desperate for new sponsors now is it ?

oh and why am I asking all these questions and not the Scottish media .. what a pitiful lot you Scottish journalists are. One hand glued to cap and the other on the forelock.
