ALL the major action from today's Scottish Cup Final
Pre-match, there is a one minute round of applause in memory of Tommy Burns.

Kick-off - 3pm - The weather perfect for the final spectacle of an intriguing season

4 mins: McCulloch is shown a yellow card for a tough tackle on Robert Harris

10 mins: Queens almost get the opener. A corner kick falls to O'Connor whose effort is cleared by Cuellar

12 mins: Thomson has to make an vital challenge to prevent Beasely getting a cross into the box

14 mins: McCann is spoken to by the referee for a strong - and late - challenge on Darcheville

19 mins: Tosh mis-hits a volley and the ball loops up into the area - and into the arms of Alexander

24 mins: McCulloch has a shot blocked and the rebound goes to Kevin Thomson - who shoots wide for Rangers

25 mins: Boyd gets in behind the Queens' defence and passes to Beasley who sends the ball straight over the bar from the edge of the box. Gers fans are none too impressed but at least their team are beginning to threaten QoS

27 mins: Boyd has a great chance from ten yards out but he sends his header over the bar. But the striker is getting closer all the time...

33 mins: Goal! Qos 0 - 1 Rangers. Boyd has been threatening this for a while now, but it's a free kick he scores from, not open play - as if the Rangers fans care! The Gers striker simply runs up and rifles a shot straight into the top corner of the Queens' net

39 mins: QoS aren't going to give up, though. Tosh makes a good run into the Rangers box and Alexander has to make a brave dive to get the ball away. The resulting cross could have been fatal, but Whittaker puts enough pressure on O'Connor to put him off his aim

42 mins: Rangers get a second! A corner causes all sorts of hassles for QoS and leaves Cuellar the space to pass to Beasley, who coolly slots it home. QoS have been game opponents, but could it all be over now?

45 mins: two minutes of extra time but Rangers look happy enough to wind the clock down. With two goals who can blame them? The half ends.

The second half

Qos have to take the game to Rangers, but this will leave them vulnerable at the back. How will they cope in the next 45 minutes? Will Rangers increase their lead?

49 mins: Goal! The half has hardly began when QoS get one back! A fine run into the box by O'Connor results in a pass and easy slot-in for Tosh from six yards. We now have a game on our hands...

52 mins: Amazing! Qos 2-2 Rangers. A superb goal from Jim Thomson makes the scores equal and sets up what will surely be a nerve-wracking time for Rangers after it looked like they had sewn it all up at half time

60 mins: No change, but the atmosphere of the game has changed dramatically as Rangers are chased all over Hampden by a revitalised QoS side who now have a great chance of lifting the cup - although it's never wise to underestimate a team like Rangers, just ask Dundee United...

64 mins: Rangers are giving away the ball to Queens in midfield too often. In this case it allows Dobbie to charge forward

66 mins: Another QoS attack. O'Connor chrges past two Rangers tackles and is unlucky not to win his side a corner before running out of steam

73 mins: Goal for Rangers! 2-3! The irrepressible Boyd does it again

75 mins: Substitutions. Beasley is replaced by Steven Davis for Rangers and Qos swap McQuilken for John Stewart

78 mins: Boyd is aiming for a hat-trick but is denied as MacDonald saves his header from ten yards out

87 mins: McCann is replaced by Scott Robertson for QOS

88 mins: Three minutes of extra time announced

90 + 3 mins: Stewart is brought down by Cuellar only 25 yards from goal. It's the last chance for QoS, but Boyd makes a good block from Harris's shot. That's it! Rangers hear the final whistle blow and know they are the Scottish Cup winners for 2008! Well done and congratulations to Queen of the South for such a good performance also

Queen of South: MacDonald, McCann, Thomson, Aitken, Harris, McQuilken, MacFarlane, Tosh, Burns, Dobbie, O'Connor. Subs: Grindlay, Stewart, O'Neill, Paton, Robertson.

Rangers: Alexander, Whittaker, Cuellar, Weir, Papac, McCulloch, Ferguson, Thomson, Beasley, Boyd, Darcheville. Subs: Graeme Smith, Dailly, Davis, McMillan, Fleck.

Referee: S Dougal (Scotland)

Ode to Mike McCurry

There once was a fan of Walter, Ally and Kenny,
Whose dodgy refereeing decisions were many.
He almost made Craig Levein greet,
When for the Gers he did cheat,
But we never imagined he was a bit of a Frank McAvennie.

Why the referre is listed at the end of the Rangers team?
It's a mistake of the graphic layout, or maybe he is one of the unionist players?

McCurry was in a hurry

So he liked in the car park

His wife was nae beauty

So he kept her in the booty

All said an done, though

Just a wee fancy man

Who knew a wee trick

Only problem was, it was his silly dick

Oh.....

What will he do now

All the burden to bear

Carry on as usual

Cause the mug doesnae care

Apart from that, a decent cup final with plenty of drama.

BEMUSED EXILE,

24/05/2008 17:10:00
So, the curtain falls on another Scottish football season, one in which Rangers played more games than any other side in our country's history. The season started with Rangers home CL qualifier against Zeta at the end of July, and has ended almost 10 months later with the Scottish Cup Final, again involving Rangers.

The statistics will show that Rangers have won both the CIS Cup and Scottish Cup, taken the SPL to the final day, and reached the UEFA Cup Final after also narrowly failing to make the knockout stages of the Champions League, which all adds up to a monumental achievement.

To win both domestic cups and reach a major European final is surely a greater achievement than winning a domestic treble, so it must stand as one of the best seasons, not only in Rangers history, but in the history of Scottish club football.

How much could have been achieved with more help from the Scottish footballing establishment, and with better spacing of games will now never be known, but everyone connected with Rangers Football Club should stand proud with regard to what has been accomplished.

These players can now take a well-deserved break in a happy frame of mind, as they have fully earned it, and they can look forward to next season assured that a couple of additional high quality players will be added to the group to improve them further. Meanwhile, the two trophies that will take pride of place in the Ibrox trophy room will serve to further strengthen Rangers position as statistically the most successful full-time professional football club on the planet.

Thank you from a fan.

A great game, well done Rangers and credit to QoS.
It has been an excellent season, perhaps one of the most exciting in recent times..
Rangers have the strength in depth to win the league next year however, Broadfoot, Cousin and Papac have to go in the Summer all for different reasons. We need to make sure we hold onto Davis and we certianly need to bring in a full back, striker and a defensive midfielder.
Roll on 08/09.
11

Brother Walfrid,

Our Walter earns his money easily does he not?

He didn't win many trophies with Everton - mainly because he wasn't managing a club that was a hundred times wealthier than 90% of the opposition.

Watching Rangers fans celebrate this 'great achievement' is as painful as watching Celtic fans celebrate their great win over the mighty Airdrie in the same competition!

If you're going to dance round the living room at results like this you really need to get our more often!

George Kay,

As a neutral (if you could ever describe a Celtic supporter in that way), that was an entertaining final to watch. I honestly thought that Rangers were dead on their feet for a while at 2-2, and that QoS could go on to make history, but the dark side just had enough left in the tank to pull through.

Anyway, it might be that rarest of things - a season that ends with both sides happy. From our point of view, the SPL title and progress in the CL had to be our priority, so I'm very happy with how it ended up. If I were a Rangers fan however, I would feel considerable satisfaction with where my team is compared to a year ago. Two cups, an excellent challenge in the SPL and the UEFA Final is not to be sneezed at, and any posters from my own side who attempt to decry Rangers efforts are only showing an inability to be fair minded.

Now we will watch keenly as the summer transfer window opens, to see who makes the most telling additions. Our guaranteed CL football should enable us to spend a good sum, and to attract a decent class of player, so I'm already confident of next season. Rangers are back though, of that I have no doubt, so it should be another close season!
