SCOTLAND's Friends Provident Trophy campaign ended in disappointment yesterday when their match against Derbyshire in Glasgow was washed out.
Cricket Scotland officials had moved the match from the side's regular home in Edinburgh to Citylets Titwood in Glasgow. However, the fixture became the Saltires' first home game in more than five years to be abandoned before a ball had been bow
led.
Coach Pete Steindl said: "It's disappointing for all concerned. The ground was looking great and I have to pay tribute to all the Clydesdale staff at Titwood for the effort they put in to getting the game on. But, in the end, there is nothing anybody can do to control the weather."
Steindl, whose side finished their campaign with just one win, added: "The guys have improved with each game and we were looking forward to developing our game again today. Our bowlers have been exceptional throughout the campaign and the batsmen came to the party against Yorkshire on Monday. There is a lot to be positive about."
The senior side have a month off from top flight action before facing New Zealand and Ireland in a tri-series in Aberdeen at the beginning of July.
"It's a chance for some of the guys with injuries to get back to full fitness and hopefully for everyone to play themselves into form," added Steindl.
Yesterday's washout denied Derbyshire a chance to secure the win they needed to qualify from the northern division.
