FRANK HADDEN has received strong backing from the heart of the team with 43-cap flanker Ally Hogg insisting Scotland's rugby coach will be in place at the start of next season.
An RBS Six Nations Championship campaign in which Scotland suffered four losses out of five has sparked a debate about the direction in which the national team is heading.

But Edinburgh skipper Hogg took time out from preparing for tomorrow's Celt
ic League clash at home to Connacht to provide support, saying: "I've just had my meeting with Frank.

"He is quite chirpy. It was about how we could have done things better and what went well. That sort of thing.

"Everyone is happy with Frank. We underachieved in what we wanted to do but that is professional sport – you don't always get everything you want.

"I would expect Frank back next season.

"If Frank is again to be involved I think the boys are happy with that."

While Scotland finished second bottom of the table, the tournament had highlights for Hogg who, after successfully regaining his place, notched his tenth international try to stand just one behind the record for a forward jointly held by John Jeffrey and Derek White.

But making it clear records were of secondary importance, Hogg said: "I'd rather I hadn't scored against Italy last Saturday and the team had won.

"I might get another try but first I have to ensure I continue to be picked." Ironically, the captaincy switches to Hogg from national skipper Mike Blair, a club-mate, tomorrow.

However, a smooth transition is expected with Hogg remarking: "Mike was a great leader even before he was made Scotland –captain.

"Nothing has really changed; it will be between the two of us to make the majority of decisions.

"And I'm sure we will cope fine." What Hogg is committed to altering is the customary faltering run-in to the Celtic League by Scottish teams.

"We all recognise that historically this is a time when Scottish teams struggle.

"Our best finish is fifth and we've set ourselves targets in a tight league where we are presently three points off second place while the seventh team is five points behind us."

FFS Ally what does it take ???

He first drops you and then ONLY brings you back because of others injuries - and you turn out to be one of the stars of the trournament for Scotland.

What does that say about FH's skills as a selector?

SRU Closing ranks or what???

Let's get professional here!!

Ok...you might not want to back-stab like Catt & Dalaglio (excuse spelling) - but let's call a spade a spade- FH was sh*te as a coach, tactician and selector

And as for your quotes:-
"Everyone is happy with Frank."

"I would expect Frank back next season.

"If Frank is again to be involved I think the boys are happy with that."

These are EXACTLY the OPPOSITE of what the fans want !!

"Everyone is happy with Frank". That`s part of the problem. Things are far to comfy with Hadden. The players should be terrified of their coach and of losing their place in the team if they don`t perform.
Hadden has to go NOW

It's just mindless PR. After all, you couldn't slag him in the event that SRU makes the stupid decision to retain him because he'd then lose his place.

"I would expect Frank back next season." I wonder if Ally follows my "expect the worst, hope for the best" mantra?

Gareth Jenkins - Poor performances - Sacked!

Eddie O'Sullivan - Poor Performances - Resigns.

Brian Ashton - Poor Performances - being reviewd (prior to sack).

Frank Hadden - Poor performances - praised and kept on as coach for forseeable future.

Ho Ho Ho - my sides are splitting at the hilarity (?) of it !!

You are absolutely correct the players and Hadden are far too comfy together. I believe that was Gareth Jenkins problem and may well be Brian Ashton's as well. There has to be a distance between coach and players and Hadden has proved this is not his way......... So long Frank and thank you Ally for making the picture so abundantly clear.

It's no surprise to me that the team who over performed this year and won the GS were the ones whose coaches basically treated them like army grunts. Regular hair dryer treatment and a bit of fear of failure. In stark contrast to the cosy SRU love in that we see today. Time for a step back in time on the coaching front with less touchy feely and more kick up the backside motivation.

TonyB: But minus the Matt Williams "you're all rubbish"-style extreme negativity.

I just thought....,

Edinburgh 20/03/2008 14:20:09
Says it all. Players sitting in the comfort zone of the SRU teams (Edinburgh Glasgow and Scotland). They feel no pressure to perform or raise their game. Look at the improvements in some players who have been bold enough to move to new leagues, Strokrosh is a fine example.

FH needs to be replaced with a new fresh coach, with different attitudes, ideas and no loyality to his chosen subjects.

It's quite clear he has his chosen players who FH looks after and prefers to work with rather than those guys who are in form and could add class to the scottish team. For example would David Callam or Alistair Kellock have recieved caps under a different coach - I don't think so.

Sir S,

I was skipping that episode too. I meant the coaching style of say a Jim Telfer. A fine line between motivation and negativity probably.
I was struck by what the Welsh said about fear of making errors as they would be lambasted for them at the monday meeting. I just don't think that mind set exists in the current coaching set up.

Tired of the excuses!!!,

"We are all happy with Frank"
The Scottish people are not happy with Frank Hadden Ally and they pay your wages which happens to be too much. If the salaries were on performance I would guarantee a significant change in attitude and committment.

Why are the players allowed to talk in the papers, they should be doing their talking on the pitch!! We have been absolutely appalling as a national side this season never mind the rest of the time, as players you cannot do anything but support Hadden in fear more than anything incase he survives which he should not, he has achieved didly squat.

I have never felt so annoyed at the whole Scottish set up, we have nothing to look forward to whatsoever in the coming Autumn Internationals, you can be rest assured the stadium will be empty if he is still in charge.

Newzealand under 20's would probably beat us at this stage of the game.

Do us all a favour Frank and go!!!!!!!!!!!!

Something has to be done and NOW.

We cannot wait til the summer tour, or until the autumn tests.

These next few months matches will determine our ranking for the next world cup.

The way we are progressing (sic) we'll have to play qualifiers to get to the cup, rather than get seeded as previous years.

We need a new coaching team in place NOW to deliver a winning attitude and performance to match

I am getting sooo bored of this. Everyone here sings from the same page...Hadden has to go etc. For the last 9 years the fans have known how to fix the problems, but the idiots in charge have decided that the collective rugby knowledge of 5 million Scots is worth less than the 20 bufties who place 5 star accomodation, travel and meals for themselves above a successful Scottish team.
Everyone knows that, in any job, a 20% success rate for targets would result in being sacked...but not the SRU...apparently that is a good enough ratio!
This 6 Nations should have been used to bring in the new faces who are going to help Scotland at the next RWC...Cairns, DeLuca (brought in but in the wrong way), Evans, D.Blair, Rennie, Houston etc. But no...we'll persist with Parks! Then we bench Paterson because of a lack of game time, whilst playing E.Murray and a couple others who have played less than him.
In the final game we have the chance to throw really attack Italy, then we play Parks and our attack falls on it's backside. The sickening thing is that, if Haddens stays, we are all going to have to watch Parks represent us AGAIN!!
I am genuinely nervous that the ELV's are brought in because they mean that most penalty offenses become free kicks. Well under Frank Hadden we haven't looked like scoring tries and all our points have really come from penalties.
A new start with some new players...WHO ALREADY DESERVE A PLACE, is the only way forward. Please SRU, LISTEN TO THE FANS!!!!!!

ignore "throw" on the first line of para 3...written in error.

Interested in everyone's thought by the way...keep em coming lads

They will do nothing as the previous poster has so eloquently stated "20 bufties" etc. Remember how many were in Rome - 30 plus - that we loyal fans have paid for over the years. Truly pathetic. Again Ally Hogg's piece was never even seen by him prior to publication. Like the crap that is attributed to Chris Cusiter at the BBC, it is all through the dismal SRU media machine.

Depressing but unfortunately true- we are stuck with the Haddock.
