ROSS MUIR, 12, beat schoolmate and friend Greg Ritchie 4-2 in the inaugural Co-Operative Club Youth Snooker Cup final after a competitive six frames at the club in Fisherrow, Musselburgh.
Muir played brilliantly to outscore his fellow Musselburgh Grammar School pupil.

He now goes on to play Jamie Stewart, from Dumfries in the final of the Scottish Youth Snooker Association under-16 event at the World of Snooker today starting at 7.00pm then tomorrow Muir and Ritchie clash again in the final of the Scottish Snooker Association Under-14 final in the Craigneuk Masters Club in Glasgow.

The club in Fisherrow formed when the Hayweights Snooker Club in Musselburgh folded and the new owners of the building, Wetherspoons, presented the Co-Operative Club with two tables and other equipment.

Now the sport is flourishing in the East Lothian town and club chairman, Bill Stewart, was on hand to present Muir with the trophy and watch the winner make the highest break of the final as he got off to a great start with 36 in the first frame.

Frame scores (Muir first): 28-62, 59-52, 64-47, 62-36, 1-82, 61-27.
