Published Date: 13 June 2008
HIBS today unveiled their new home kit for season 2008/09, which the players will wear for the first time against Barcelona.

And marketing and communications director Ian Spence believes that the pre-season friendly with the Nou Camp stars can raise the club's profile to a global level.

Supporters will be able to see their favourites wearing the new strip for the first time during their pre-season campaign, which includes the eagerly-anticipated friendly against Barca in July.

A huge crowd is expected at Murrayfield and the match is being screened live on television and Spence said: "I am pleased that our pre-season campaign has come together to offer the Hibernian supporters some very exciting fixtures both home and away.

"We have an opportunity to promote the club to an international audience and I believe that our new home kit will be an attention grabber for all the right reasons."

The club also released their season tickets for public sale today and are hoping that they can match last year's record-breaking numbers.

Season ticket holders can purchase a special pre-season match package which gives them one free game and the club is offering supporters who buy the books a discount voucher offering up to £10 off the new 08/09 home kit. Prices range from £45 for Hibs Kids to £355 for Adults in the Famous Five stand.

With a potential East Stand development on the horizon, space may be at a premium next season and Spence added: "The home kit launch also falls on our season ticket general release date – to date season ticket sales have tracked well and are currently matching the record breaking numbers from this point last year."

The Hibs players will return to training at the end of this month in preparation for their InterToto Cup campaign and the glamour tie with Pep Guardiola's side and boss Mixu Paatelainen revealed that he and his players are pleased with the new strip and looking forward to the challenges ahead. He said: "I am delighted with the new home kit, the fabric and design are both fantastic."

Prices for the home strips, which are again sponsored by Whyte & Mackay, have been frozen at last year's level, starting at £24.99 for children and £34.99 for adults.

Supporters can pre-order the new kit from tomorrow, either from the club store or online at www.hibernianfc.co.uk, and those who do so will be the first to get their hands on the strip when they are delivered on July 15.

Looks very like last seasons.

A rubbish homekit for a rubbish team!!

Sir Albertt x2,

One thing for sure is,it can't be any worse than the new away kit, that is brutal.

Murrayfield ? Is that right ?
5

Indy Rep Kid,

13/06/2008 13:19:03
#4 Yes, apparently Murrayfield is now an acceptable venue for football.
6

Eighteen Seventy-Four,

Cheers Indy, must have missed that from previous reports.

Heres me thinking the San Giro is a 5 star stadium.
7

Sir Albertt x2,

13/06/2008 13:21:31
Is that right Scumbo's? Is the excitment of your big name manager getting too much for you, that you have to comment on the new Hibs strip?
8

Kevin,

13/06/2008 13:27:44
I think the strip looks good to be honest.

Yes, I am literally creaming myself over the new strip. Who are the 3 players, by the way?
10

Johnny Jambo,

13/06/2008 13:30:25
A lot of thought has gone into this "new" strip. Green with white sleeves seems to me like I have seen this before.
11

Hibernia,

#4 aye Murrayfield is correct. We were waiting for Tynies new £51m mainstand to be built but think most of us will be dead by the time that gets built!
12

Optimus Prime,

Cybertron 13/06/2008 13:33:18
It doesn't appear much different from the last one...

Interesting that Murrayfield is suddenly deemed a suitable venue. Thought Hibs policy was play such big games at Hampden...

14

Sir Albertt x2,

Creaming yourself over a football strip? You want to get out more son. If you WERE a football fan,you would know who they are, no matter who they play for.

I reckon the middle one is Morais? Canning and Hogg either side?
17

Lenny,

13/06/2008 13:44:44
Lots of negative comments but got to say I am VERY pleased with it. After the absolute disaster of that yellow workmans bib away shirt I was dreading to see what would get unvealed for the home kit. Simple green with white sleeves? That will do me!!!
18

gods lovechild,

13/06/2008 13:45:50
Looks great much better than that manky maroon p!sh the (we love "MR ROMANOV" and his array of crappy reject managers but we still "BELIEVE") mob wear
19

Lenny,

13/06/2008 13:46:37
# 16 Correct.

And cant beleive Jambo's are still going on about Murrayfield. Christ, anything for a wee bit of point scoring with you lot.
20

Rolland,

13/06/2008 13:48:55
LOL

A huge crowd is expected at Murrayfield - Yes but not when the hibs are playing, about the 24K mark if they are lucky, probably just open the main stand and see how it goes, should suit the hibs players playing in front of empty seats mind you.

Wonder when this huge crowd is expected at Murrayfield.
21

Indy Rep Kid,

22

Lenny,

13/06/2008 13:52:52
Rolland, do you know that Hibs hold not only the record crowd for an Edinburgh team but also the highest average over a season?

Thought not!
23

Sir Albertt x2,

13/06/2008 13:55:27
#16 Well done, you really are a Hibs fan!! At least this year at Murryfield it wont be just the fans in the top tier that will see the ball.
24

I must have missed something when were the plans submitted to the Council and I assume that the funding is in place?

25

Hibernia,

Here we go again with Rolland and his uptodate witty banter. Come up with something new that doesnt bore everyone.

Indy you were almost right it is Nish, Morais and Hogg.

I wonder what it will be next year that's new. Can hardly wait.....
27

13/06/2008 14:28:57
Have to say, not that keen on the green socks and shorts. We need to get back to green top with white sleeves, white shorts and white socks. Much nicer.
28

Rolland,

13/06/2008 14:36:45
#22 Lenny did you know in the season just finished when Hibs finsihed in the top six and hearts the bottom six the higher average attendance was found at Tynecastle.... now maybe many years ago you did have a higher average perhaps in the days when wee boys were lifted over the turnstyles, but things have changed.

Really don't see the need to take this one to murrayfield.

Anyway good to hear about your "new Stand on the horizion" I'll let you all get on with your buy a brick campagin.

Mmm, 4 paragraphs and you still manaegr to say nothing new at all.

Yes, I am aware that Hearts average attendace was higher. I am also aware that the attendace listed at Tynecastle is actually less than how many really attended.

And yes, we really are brickin it. I'm brickin it incase any of you halfwits decide to come to Easter Road after Hearts cease to exist. (no offence to the good Jambo's on here.)

Nish or Canning though, both are gash so can't really blame you.

Nice try but dragging the fine (?) name of Callum Elliot into the argument will not distract us from the fact you did not recognise one of your top strikers.

Maybe we should have let REAL football fans decide, eh? (Muchachos?)
42

13/06/2008 15:22:40

Not much you can do with the home strip. The away one is not good. There is loads you can do with it but i'm afraid this is not one of the better designs, again that is my opinion, others will differ.

Do you see how it works ?

Glad you all found it so funny, anyway, might be on over the weekend might not, but rest assured the mangerial cirus will continue at Tynie next week.

I look forward to hearing an interview conducted by the BBC, our UK national broadcasting corporation, with the rest of the other home international team managers.
