Arthur film debut is on the rocks
ALEX Arthur has put his acting ambitions on hold to concentrate on his upcoming fight against Nicky Cook.

Arthur, the Edinburgh fighter, will make the first defence of his WBO world super-featherweight title at the Manchester Evening News Arena
on 6 September, ruling out his film debut in Viking epic Valhalla Rising alongside acclaimed Danish actor, Mads Mikkelsen, who previously played James Bond villain Le Chiffre in Casino Royale.

"I'm disappointed that I won't be in the film, but boxing comes first and there will be further opportunities down the line," said Arthur, who has long expressed an interest in becoming a film star. "I'll just have to leave all the Viking warrior stuff to the fight itself.

"I was due to film my part in the coming weeks, but I just couldn't fit it around training for this fight. I remember a few years ago, Lennox Lewis filmed Ocean's 11 instead of preparing for his fight with Hasim Rahman in South Africa, and got knocked out in a massive upset."

Arthur, 30, had been cast in Valhalla Rising through his cousin, Jamie Sives, who also appears in the film.

Alloa has a hold on Stevenson

FORGET La Liga. Jamie Stevenson, who won a dream move to Real Mallorca five years ago after being spotted playing on the Spanish island while on holiday, seems to have a thing about Alloa, after returning there for a third spell.

Stevenson left Recreation Park for a three-year deal with the Spaniards, but returned to Alloa within 18 months due to homesickness.

He then moved to Morton but, despite a successful spell at Cappielow, he has been allowed to again return to Recreation Park on a six-month loan.

Online Jags hit by virus threat

RELIEF for Partick Thistle fans, who have been assured it is safe to watch their heroes on the internet as another First Division campaign beckons.

Thistle had to move quickly to assure fans accessing the video highlights package on their website that they had not received a computer virus as a result. Users received a message advising that a Trojan Horse virus was being downloaded when trying to watch match action. But Thistle have advised that the hacker's message has been removed and they have taken action to avoid a repetition.

TALES FROM THE TABS

LOVEN ON A PRAYER

FORMER Rangers winger Peter Lovenkrands "opened his heart" in the Daily Record yesterday and revealed that he would jump at the chance of a return to Ibrox.

Currently plying his trade in the German Bundesliga with Schalke – who beat Rangers 1-0 in a pre-season friendly over the weekend – Lovenkrands is not ruling out a move back to the SPL. "I would have loved to come back to Rangers," said the Dane. "There was a bit of contact, but not enough apparently.

"Would I still go to Rangers? It's difficult for me to comment on, but you can probably tell from the look on my face that I would."

The Daily Express, meanwhile, reported that former Scotland striker Stevie Crawford is being courted by two SPL clubs following his release from Dunfermline. The 34-year-old is training with Raith Rovers, but fancies a return to the top flight.

And, as well as updating us on Cristiano Ronaldo's womanising in LA, the Daily Mirror claimed Hull hero and former Don Dean Windass is a target for Leeds United.

ReaRangers should run an annual "air flute" competition to match the air guitar competitions in place.

There was a huge difference between Paul (Concrete fur brains)Gazza Gascoigne and David Healy....

Concrete Brains was thick enough to be egged on by team mates to do it in the heat of a Celtic Rangers league game....

So why would it be worse?...and only in Scotland?

WATP is a meaningless phrase that means nothing...represents nothing....stands for nothing and has never had any impact on me at all....

Although for a phrase that means nothing....we do find it funny that Rearrangers fans appear to cling onto it for dear life as some sort of representation of their oppressed life.

Any rumours floating around that WS is looking to sign a couple of midfield players for Rangers?

Gentlemen please - can we not accept:

There are Rangers followers (the Mason Boyn Loyal), who get awfully aerated if someone makes the sign of the cross in their presence.

There are Celtic followers who become equally aerated if someone mimics the playing of a flute in their presence.

It's their problem(s); the rest of us ought to simply shake our heads, laugh and get on with life.

So, can we get back to football, before posting on the Scotsman website's sports pages becomes impossible - because of the tit-for-tat silliness of some of the Chuckle Brothers' fans.

However blessing oneself has an element of coolness as it has been done by the truly great players such as pele and maradona.

Flutes are a girly instrument and played by buck teethed teenagers.

41

Survivor Of Riots,

22/07/2008 15:43:50
54 - agreed, I don't think that any of them are (genuinely) injured either.

Walter (no surname and in whom we trust) issued a decree at the end of last season stating "its OK to fail cos yer tired".

By withdrawing players from National Squads due to "tiredness" and bleating for an extension to the season, he created a mantra for the players. In the only act of leadership demonstrated last season by Barry Ferguson, he took up the gauntlet of the manager and led the rest of the "shirkers" by example...he chucked it.

This was the root cause of ReaRangers collapse last season. It can be traced back to Walters edict "its OK to fail cos yer tired"

Great leaders galvanise their people to go further, Walter couldnae do that! He gave them all a ready made excuse which the clung onto with both hands.

So tightly have the grabbed it, that the mantra is deep rooted in their psyche.

It de-railed them last season and is following them into this one. Players who should be working on their fitness, based on the evidence of last season, sitting up on massage tables watching day time TV. He haw wrong with them.

Not acceptable practise elsewhere, but Walter (no surname and in whom we trust) laid down the slacker culture at Ibrox.

All together now:

"its OK to fail cos yer tired"

With Ferguson’s injury you would have to think that smith would like to turn the clock back get a refund for Lafferty to free up the funds to buy Davis.

I know if I had a young prospect like Fleck who will be competing with Lafferty, I would rather have Davis on the payroll, after all he knew Ferguson had a bad ankle and back up would be required, maybe he thinks Thompson can fill the void? I think he's sweating it as your qualifier gets nearer!

I remember at the start of last season all of us Hoops wanted new signing to shore up our back line and look what happened when we didn’t, our back line was decimated and we didn’t have the back up (excluding Caddis) and we dropped a lot of points, it should be interesting to see who smith brings in.

I don't think Wattie has enough time to bring any one in for the Kaunas game.....then again he shouldn't need to bring any one in to deal with them.....

Bazzas problem as always....was that he wanted to do everything.....

Be the Captain...
Play midfield....
Play as a forward....
Take the free kicks....
Take the corner kicks....
Take the throw ins...
Score the goals....
Cut the oranges at hawf time....
Drive the team bus.....

It gave everybody the impression that he was more important to the team than he actually was....

I actually think Rangers might play better without him...the funny thing is....if and when he recovers....Wattie will put him staright back in the team....regardless of the results!

Again terrific to see the interest you have in all things Rangers, fyi, Lafferty played against Morton at Murray Park.

Also all the posts regarding the injury to BF, its a pity that more of the Gers players do not show the same commitment to the club that BF does.

As for his declining abilities, there is not a doubt he is not the player he was, but the player has had some serious injuries and still carried the team on his back.

8 or 9 years ago BF was the brightest player Scotland had produced in years, if at that time he had moved to Spain or Italy with the proper guidance and expert coaching I believe he would have developed in to a truly exceptional player.

Other then a short spell and major injury in England he has chosen to be a Rangers player, admitted he foolishness in leaving and is happy to finish his career at Ibrox, for that he should be commended.

thepundit, So let me get this right you can read, it's my prediction that's all, just a prediction and if I'm wrong you are more than welcome to tear into me at the end of the season. I will not go way.

Another thing, I am aware that I could be leaving myself out to dry, the way that I end a post (4 In a row), and I am aware that football goes around in circles just like the economy and that your time will come of that I'm sure. However, I am confident that we will secure the SPL (hope you are not reading anything sinister in the abbreviations) again this season.
In fact, I am very confident about the outcome, again if I am wrong I promise you I will come back and take my licks.

If that is the case, I will use my other ID (CHAMPIONEES) and not CALEDONIACO as that is my laptop ID. There is a good chance that I will be in Buenos Aires for 6 months around then, hence the laptop and not my PC. Now I must be off as the game starts soon.

All we keep hearing from Ibrox is the lack of money. Levein with no money is putting together a decent squad, I think they will finish 3 or 4th,

Gomis who he got for nothing looks a decent young player, the NI. lad Feeney they also got on loan is supposed to be another good striker.

I know that United supporters will put up with young players taking time to find their game in the SPL while we at Ibrox demand success and would not have the patience to allow WS to blood in 2 or 3 young players into a team and let them play and gain invaluable experience.

Time is running out and WS I hope can bring in a couple of midfield players that we need. If Davis is not bought could there be a chance he comes back on loan, or why dont we offer the standard, 1mil down and 1mil for the next 3 years.

Something has to done quickly or our season could implode before it starts.
