HEARTS teenager Dumitru Copil expects to wait until December to learn whether the club will grant him a new five-year contract, with his existing deal due to expire in January.
A clause in Copil's current two-year agreement, signed in January 2007 when he joined Hearts from Romanian club Atletico Arad, stated that a five-year extension would be forthcoming upon his 18th birthday.

The midfielder reached that milestone in March this year but put his Hearts career in jeopardy by going AWOL and returning to his homeland that month. He returned in June but must now wait until officials at Tynecastle decide on his future. Adrian Stefanescu, the player's agent, explained to the Evening News that he does not expect news from Hearts until the end of the year.

"We are waiting for Hearts to contact us, I think it will be winter before there is news on the five-year contract. Probably December," he said.

"There have been a lot of changes at the club so I think this is the reason. They have a new manager and staff. Dumitru has no problems now, he is okay and so it's down to Hearts."

Stefanescu said the player had spoken with Hearts' manager Csaba Laszlo, who was born in Romania and speaks the language fluently.

"He has spoken with the manager but this doesn't mean he will be put in the first team or anything," said Stefanescu.

"It will help that the manager can speak Romanian if they offer him a new contract, but also Dumitru can speak English as well as anyone at the club now."

What is the standard of player are we producing at the academy. We have two young stars who have made the grade. Berra and Driver. Probably Glen too if he got a chance. Thompson jury still out along with Jonnson, who I hoped for more from this season. Mole and Wallace are flops. Surely we have some good youngsters crying out for a chance.

No problem getting the 5 year deal as he'll be sold on for at least £9M.

3*

If he is that good why is he not in first team or is this a case of more negativity from the team selection panel.

#4 think #3 thinks he is funny....saw Copil pre season looked pretty good but seems to have faded as not involved with reserves or under 19's recently.Several youngsters not far away :Glen/Rapnik/McGowan/Husband.Kostadinov starting to look the part as well. All regulars with reserves.
Web site has just started article on under 19's (HEARTS TV but did not work last time i tried)

With an attitude like he has shown towards Hearts he should be emptied as soon as, however, you could say that for the majority of the first team as well. Never mind, at least we can skelp the hobos next week!!!

Csaba will be influential in the decision as to whether Copil stays or not.

I predict come January we will see several first team players leaving and a few more reserve/youth team players being elevated to the first team.

Hearts have to cut the wage bill, especially players who have not worked out and are not regular starters.

It's all about survival (financial) now!

I am Jack's complete sense of apathy.

After Beslija and Panilla, I am not expecting to see anything ground-breaking transpire from this boy to be perfectly honest.

We seemed to be in a position to attract and aquire top class players and promising youngsters to the club in the early days of Vlad's reign but now after the perceived and by all accounts pretty accurately perceived chaos around the club since the heady all-conquering days of Burley, we have been unable to turn good promising lads into the players they were set to become. Whether this situation is entirely down to Vlad's meddling or whether we have been unlucky in signing a lot of duffers with questionable attitudes is still up for a certain amount of debate to be honest but for me the lack of sensible infrastructure at the club has hampered us on this score.

I think we would have seen a lot more progression through the ranks at Hearts if it had not been for Vlad insisting on persevering with absolute donkeys like Pilly-biter, Ivaskevicius, Beniusis, Kurskis, Audrey and co when we have better in the reserves and U19's. imagine how crestfallen you would be if you were MacDonald, Glen, Copil, Rapnik or McGowan and you were watching guff like that going out and playing absolutely pony week in and week out and you still weren't given a chance.

We have too many players that are in the squad for the wrong reasons in my opinion and the reasons seem to be three fold as far as i can determine.

Reason 1): Audrey, Miko, Benny and co, I think are in the squad and still on loan so that Vlad can showcase them and punt them on the way he did with Velicka to make money for Kaunas that would otherwise never be possible.

Reason 2): Goncalves, Bruno, Panilla, Skacel, Bednar, Nade, Kingston, these sort of guys are in the squad because through Vlad's networks and in the case of some of them, the manager at the time's networks, he is able to get them in on the relative cheap for one reason or another, often

... Cont... questionable attitudes or fitness trouble and then they are sold on for a tidy sum... Hopefully to offset against our debt and to build the stand.

reason 3): Youth development like Gordon, Berra, Driver and Jonsson, good for the fans and highly profitable to sell on.

These methods on their own are not necessarily bad business models but unfortunately sometimes we see a situation like with Velicka, where a player is sold on at a big profit for Kaunas because he is at his hight of value but this clashes with us being left with no adequate striking cover thanks to his replacement (Nade) being one of the players we got on the cheap but have a questionable attitude... Like intentionaly trying to eat his way out of tynecastle.

Other negative effects of having too many ulterior motives on the go at one time are that as i said before we drop points and becvome disorganised thanks to having too many sub-standard kaunas players on the books, getting in the way of proper player's progression as was the case with Benni and Kurskis etc.

Then you have the 'too many cooks' effest with coaches feeling undermined because uncle Vlad is insisting on certain players being picked because he is lining them up for a move which reflects upon the team with players lacking motivation when they see that busting a gut and doing the job well will not garuantee you a starting place.

The thing is we have too manycross purposes at the club and this i think is reflected in the amount of sirectors of this, that and whatever that we have trawling around... Vlad seems to think that football can be run like any other business and as long as he has lots of managers working to different agendas then it will all work out in his way.
