EDINBURGH'S qualification for the quarter-finals of the Heineken European Rugby Cup four years ago is set to be taken into account under new tournament seeding arrangements due to be unveiled later today.
Instead of seeding six teams according to which is highest-ranked in each country, organisers have come up with new proposals.
Under the new system, teams will now earn four points for winning their pool, three for finishing runners-up, two for t
hird, one for fourth. Quarter-finalists gain a further one point, semi-finalists an extra two, finalists two more with a further two for the winners.
This is based on the past four seasons which means Edinburgh going through to the knock-outs in 2004 as runners-up receive three-point recognition, placing them ahead of Glasgow.
