STEPHEN FRAIL admits Hearts supporters deserve better than to endure a repeat of this season's mediocrity and the interim manager is determined to help improve the club's fortunes.
Frail believes a successful pre-season programme is key to ensuring a more prosperous campaign and is already formulating a summer schedule to prime the squad for the SPL's resumption in August.

Last season's trips to Austria and Germany were overshadowed by the hapless Eduard Malofeev, whose chaotic interference had a negative effect on team morale.

This year should see a more sensible pre-season programme involving only one week-long trip to Germany, with Malofeev not expected to attend.

Frail stressed that whatever is necessary will be done to ensure Hearts deliver on their stated aim of challenging for European football.

"If it was a report card going out, this season would read not good enough. That applies to everyone," he said.

"We need to make sure next season's report card reads a lot better. That means pre-season has to be right and we need to hit the ground running.

"We need to be ready for our first league game, home or away, and get three points.

"When you look back, losing the first game of the season at home to our rivals, the whole thing just wasn't right from the start. We're doing everything to make sure the start of next season is right.

"The fans don't deserve another season like this. They've been there every week and we need to give them something back. We need to make sure we're ready to give them it back next season."

Frail, whose current contract expires this summer, is still no clearer on which role he might fulfil next season or if he will even still be at Tynecastle.

"That's the uncertainty of football, but between now and the start of pre-season I'll be working to make sure everything is right," he continued. "If it's me in charge, fine. If it's someone else, I want to make sure I've left in place everything for whoever comes in so that they can take the club forward.

"That's the most important thing, the football club. It's not me being here or anyone else coming in, it's the club. If all our pre-season preparations are right, the games we arrange, the players are aware of what's expected, hopefully that makes better ingredients for next season."

With supporters craving the appointment of a permanent manager by majority shareholder Vladimir Romanov, Frail sympathises with their emotions.

"I think there's more emphasis put on that from outside the club. I know the fans want someone in place," he said. "We've lost a couple of games since taking over in January but the results and form have been relatively good. If we'd carried our current form from the beginning of the season we wouldn't be in the bottom six, we would be right up the top and challenging for Europe.

"The players know who the manager is in the minute. I can see the argument in people wanting to see a manager in place, whether it be me or someone else. I think that comes mostly from the fans, which is totally understandable."

I would like to thank all hearts supporters for thier long and continues support over this difficult period.

I would like to reward you all for you patience and more importantly your Money with this little snippit that i am about to leak .......i mean discuss witht the board:

hearts objectives for 2008-2009 season

1) we are about to build a state of the art soccer arena on the moon, all those who buy a new season ticket for the decrepit Tynecastle will not only recieve thier obligatory free scarve, but also half price moon shuttle transport for season 2009-2010.

2) We are currently in discussions with a new manager and am happy to confirm that God himself is interested in taking over with his son jesus who is iapparently a "miracle worker" on the training ground.

3) We are bringing in Bono and Bob Geldof as our financial advisors, once they have solved the issues surrounding 3rd world poverty they will be qualified enough to get to grips with our accounts.

4) There are Several big name players looking at comming to hearts far bigger even than, davidas cesnuaskas and andrius kasnavicius.

5) We have enlisted a top teamto complete the construction of our new £51m state of the art stand in the interim prior to our moon arena and am delighted that, Bob, wendy, scoop, rolly, muck and the crew will start worki on the pre season.

These very aggressive moves can only be funded with YOUR help, now come on get your cash out and buy a season ticket or forget all of the above and we are moving to murrayfield.

May i also congratulate hibs on getting craig roecastle back to the holy ground, i heard dublin hibs on here raving about him last week (i was a regular reader of this forum before dublin hibs was needlessly suspended time after time)

"If it is me in charge - fine"

No disrespect Stevie but whatever happened to "I will not be in charge next season but I hope to assist whoever is" ?

You have played some very astute cards since January.

We all know it is a done deal as you know how to play the Romanov game. (Maybe I should have typed who rather than how).

You have done a very decent job under the circumstances - God alone knows how bad things would have got if you hadn't been there (relegation but for Gretna ?- they would not have been allowed to go bust if Hearts could have gone down)but assistant to a quality manager is what the vast majority of fans want. It is what we were promised , so unfortunately you bear the brunt of many fans ire dut to what looks like YET ANOTHER BROKEN VLAD PROMISE.

You in charge and Vlad pulling the strings - It is what we defeatists expect.

Had to have a wee chortle reading all the gash about the Yams finishing with more points than the Cabbage. Even with five games (three at home) against diddy bottom six opposition, they just couldn't manage it. Here's hoping for more Stevie Frail gags next season.....

Mr Hibs, ma sides are away too!

I just can't wait till tomorrow night, all the Hibbys will be moaning about being cheated by the ref, how they should have had a penalty at a crucial stage of the game (just on half time when they were only three nil down). How at least seven of Celtic's goals were offside and should not have been allowed by the Irish linesman, Phil McCrackin, therefore that would have made the score a respectable two-nil defeat, oh roll on tomorrow night.

Maybe during pre season you could teach the players how to pass to someone in their own Feckin team eh?

Maybe stop calling elliot a strike,no player. Get someone who can score goals and maybe even a mid feild and defence. Then we MIGHT see an improvement.

Shaggy do us a favour and fall on your sword.
Today any lingering notions that you might know what you were doing, evaporated after half an hour.
I get the strongest feelings that the players neither respect you or fear you. In fact I feel they hold you in contempt, and by the selection and sytem employed today, combined with your substitutions, I could see why.
