CSABA LASZLO admitted today he'd love to repay the Hearts fans for their backing by bringing the Co-operative Insurance Cup to Tynecastle this season.

• Christian Nade goes close with the scores level

The Gorgie team booked their place in the semi-finals with a 1-0 victory
over Celtic at Parkhead last night, thanks to a second-half penalty converted by captain Michael Stewart.

They now face either Rangers, St Johnstone or St Mirren next month and, with fans becoming despondent having seen their side struggle in the opening weeks of the league season, coupled with a heavy defeat away from home in the Europa League qualifiers against Dinamo Zagreb, Laszlo is keen to give something back to the supporters.

He said: "We now have to look to the next game and if we can get past that into the final then anything is possible. It is very important for us to do well for our supporters because last year we went out very early in the cup competitions.

• Celtic's Danny Fox brings down Nade - penalty to Hearts

"To win at Celtic Park is a huge performance from this young team, especially because the last time we lost 2-1.

"The team last night was better and more concentrated, it was a typical cup tie. There was also some luck but I think that was also for Celtic. Our last game was a draw against Falkirk and some of the fans were unhappy with our performance, also in Zagreb we had maybe 2000 supporters over there and they were very sad at the end of the game because we lost 4-0, but still they applauded at the end.

"I think the fans must understand that we are not machines, we are also humans and you can also sometime have a bad day."

Laszlo insisted that he would be more than happy to work alongside Ivan Svabovic if the Lithuanian is confirmed as the Tynecastle club's new sport director.

• Captain Michael Stewart scores from the spot

Svabovic is believed to have been introduced to the players by owner Vladimir Romanov at an hour-long meeting at the Gorgie ground on Tuesday afternoon. And Laszlo stressed that he was delighted to get the chance to talk face to face with Romanov, adding: "If the club like to take a sport director then he is welcome, I don't have any problem with that. I have so much work right now that I may need three sport directors! If we only have one then I am also happy with that."

Meanwhile, Hearts captain Michael Stewart insisted there was never any chance of him sitting out the 1-0 victory at Parkhead despite being jeered by his own supporters in the game against Falkirk last weekend. The midfielder passed a late fitness test on an ankle injury to make the starting line-up and stroked home the penalty which won the match for the Jambos.

• Celtic captain Stephen McManus is sent off for a foul on Andrew Driver

He said: "There wasn't any question of me sitting the game out. These things happen in football and things can turn around very quickly and that's what happened last night. We're into the semi-finals and now have a fantastic opportunity of getting into a final and, after that, it's anyone's guess as to what can happen. I think a good cup run would really give us a boost of confidence and let us look at the positives. The possibility of getting to a cup final is a great incentive for everybody to aim towards.

"I think that we stuck together as a team and created a lot of chances, like we have in previous games, but thankfully we got a slice of luck and managed to hold out for the win. There wasn't much difference between last night and other performances, just that the ball went in the back of the net.

I HONESTLY CANNOT SEE THAT RECORD BEING BROKE IN NEXT TWO GAMES AT LEAST.

Well done Hearts. Good win last night.

Goncalves was fantastic and showing the form he first arrived with at Hearts.

Nade - what can I say? That's the hardest I've seen him work in a game and he's actually quite a threat if he can be given the ball to run at defenders.

Coming from a Hibbee, it like to say well done last night, about time Celtic and Rangers got brought down a peg or too, That wee Craig Thomson, looks like some player, plays with alot of confidence and looks like he's been playing for years, Hearts done what they are good at Defending and hitting on the break, both teams had chances, hearts took them, but I have to say how bad was stewarts penalty, still it went in and Nade actually looked like a footballer last night!!!

Think you need to wake up my Hobo friend. Did you not see Nade's effort in the Ist minute, or Bouzid's diving header near the end of the 1ST half, oh and what about Driver through on goal in the 1st minute of the 2nd half, these chances plus more, could have resulted in a high scoring draw, BUT!! as you put it, you've got to score goals to win games, and that's what the JT's done last night, SCORE! and they didn't, end off! I have not read any previous posts this is just my thoughts.

Great result last night for the Yams, they rode their luck a little but so did hibs at Ibrox. Nade looked like he actually gave a sh@t last night and worked hard, however he still is not a striker. your man Gongalves was excellent and worked his socks off.

Another game that pushes the OF further back is all good IMO.

The 7th will be a really interseting game if you play the same as you did last night, however form means nothing in a derby we all know that.

However is it still just a mickey mouse cup? or would you not care if you had lost last night
44

Gordon Combe,

29/10/2009 12:38:32
Good win for you guys last night. Rode ur luck but got there and in a cup tie, thats all that really matters.

Cant understand why any defender would bring down Nade in the box when lets face it, if you let him go, he is 99.5% certain NOT to score.

Am I right in thinking that the man you slag off is now your top scorer, albeit from the penalty spot. Says it all about your strike force and I fear that a pen was the only way you were going to score.

As for Celtic, strange they had their main strike force on the bench for most of the game and must be regretting it now, mind you when they did come on they were murder.

What both teams would give for a Riordan, Stokes, Zemmama, Benji or even a Nish.

Great win though but watch out for the saints in the next round, either of them!

Thanks for your kind comments. As to Stewart's penalty, bottom line is it went in, and hopefully it will shut up those so called Hearts fans ?? who abuse him more because he once played for your lot, than the fact he hasn't been playing well recently. I'm the first to admit his recent form has been pretty poor, and maybe at times the responsibility of the captaincy is too much for him, but last night he did play well. Time to get behind him and all the rest of the players. Provided they all put in the effort they did last night, things should improve and we will soon climb the table again. We should all support our team and players irrespective of who they played for before, it's what they do for us that counts.

Has to be said though, Hearts attack still aint good enough. The defence gives away too much too. Just as well Celtic were equally hopeless - their defence is rank. MacManus, Caldwell and Fox? They won't be up there with the Celtic greats, that's for sure.

Three points to note from last night:

1 When was the last time a team got a penalty at Darkheid, together with-

2 A Celtic player being sent off.

3 Samaras (HA HA HA) near sht maself when he lobbed Balogh, raised his fist to the Celtic fans in salute of his 'goal' only to see it bounce off the post.

Does anyone remember any visiting team benefitting from 1 and 2 above?

In my years of watching football (around 42) I have seen Hibs win 3 major trophies and Hearts 2.

2 out of the 3 times we won the cup, winning it meant we qualified for a place in Europe. It wasnt a Mickey Mouse Cup then and it still isnt. It is one of the treble which every Scottish football team strives to win....end of!

However, there seems to be a lot of Jambos riding high on last nights result and have taken a lot of confidence from it. For me I didn't see anything last night to suggest Hearts have instantly improved.

Well done Hearts.(From a Hibbie)
Ref' the Mcmanus tackle on Driver. I have seen more dangerous tackles but that has got to be by far the worst with regards to where the ball was when he hit Driver. Absolute disgrace and the Ref should not have needed his assistant to make the decision. From anywhere in the stadium or in front of the TV automatic red card and if Driver had been hurt I think further action would have followed from SFA.

Your players worked their socks off last night, defended very well for the most part, although greatly helped by by shocking attempted finishes. It was a defo penalty and sending off.
Well done to Mikey Stewart for having the guts to step up to take the penalty, given the hard time he has had recently.

Anyone else notice Mowbrey was not wearing a poppy on his jacket, everyone else on telly seems to be issued with one.

88 Mowbray also sloped away without shaking Laszlo by the hand at the end, Peter Grant did. Seem to remember he did that at the Semi Final in 2006 while fibs coach. Lack of class, it's one thing to be a sore loser, but come on. You'd have thought he'd be used to being a loser by now!

They deserved a bit of luck.Nade wouldn`t have scored as ball would probably have run out.TThe same Nade missed a golden chance first minute too.Stewart took a very poor penalty that a half decent keeper would have saved.
Who`s worrying ? Celtic fans..not us.The defence played excellent only fault in team is lack of a decent striker. Also Driver should tell Burley He`ll play for Scotland as there`s no chance whatsoever of making an English side. Not really good enough.
Well done Hearts ,let`s hope they can stay clear of Rangers in the semis.

Hearts took 600 "fans" to Celtic park last night. Can you really claim to be Scotland's third force in football with such a dire support? I think not...

Big team, big disappointment.

Over the moon with the result last night and to a degree, the performance. However, our lack of firepower is there for all to see irrelevant of what team you support. I find it absolutely mind-boggling that we started this season in such dire straits and feel that we will totally struggle to get a top six finish when we simply aren't scoring goals. Why the hell didn't we sign Stokes? What we have up front is a disgrace and in over 30 years of going to Tynecastle i have never ever seen such a poor forward line.

On another note, good to see the "normal" Hibs fans praising this result. It's about time BOTH Edinburgh teams united against the scum from the west. As is unfortunately the case, a number of my mates would shoot me down for saying this, but I prefer a Hibs win against Rangers or Celtic any day...

Speaking of which, has the bank advised Walter and Super Twally what team to play this weekend??? Bring on the old days when Rankers struggled to attract more than 20,000 fans.

Finally, why is the Glesca media so reluctant to delve deeper into Murray's crumbling empire and investigate how HE personally took this "proud" club into the ground and jumped overboard just as the wheels fell off the bigot bandwagon. When you look at the press coverage our crazy captain attracts, the weegie papers seem rather reluctant to cover the huge financial problems at Ibronx.

Edinburgh Forever, C'moan the Hearts!

Nearly forgot, shame on the clowns from the Falkirk game that boo'd Michael Stewart. It's amazing the amount of "new" post-Romanov fair weather Hearts fans who were never there in '86, never there in '98 nor 2006 yet feel they have the right to abuse THEIR OWN players!! Throughout the years I have always watched the games with the hardcore Hearts season ticket holders. Now we have the additional few thousand and they are absolute tw@ts. If you want to boo players go elsewhere, Smeltic for example. Speaking of which, McManus "tackle" on Driver was a disgrace. I'm happy that the referee changed his decision though surprised that he had to speak to the linesman in order to do so??? Somebody watching that game through binoculars from Edinburgh could see he had absolutely ZERO intention of hitting the ball.

Would the ref have made the same decision with 60 plus thousand Smeltic fans in the stands????

mmmm now Mr King as striker Romanov would love him!!

The striker, 29, was found guilty of sexual assault and actual bodily harm after he had been "cold-shouldered" by a female student in a London nightclub.

When do we find out who we get in the semi ? And if we do win it, do we get some of those cardboard cut outs of the cup to wave around at the next derby ? Infact no , that would be a bit sad. Mind you , is it not round about February or March the final ? Probably be about 7 pts clear of Hibs by then as per usual !!

This years most sarcastic post?

"Mick went for the ball and arrived a little late"

Was Driver hiding a ball in his sock?
